LIVE REVIEW: Dasha @ Scala, London

Last night (Monday, August 19th) country-pop superstar Dasha brought her Dasheville, USA headlining tour to London for her first headline show in the city and she did not disappoint, wowing the sold-out crowd at the packed Scala venue nestled in Kings Cross.

But before Dasha arrived on stage, fans in attendance were treated to an incredible set from British crossover band Remember Monday who showcased that UK acts can stack up against those coming over from the US. They delivered a slick set that put the spotlight on their vocal harmonies, and standout songwriting talent.

A major highlight of their feel-good set was their upcoming single ‘Famous‘ which saw them indulging in some fun banter with the audience, ensuring they had them rapt with attention, their cover of ‘Unwritten’ also had everyone in full voice. They are embarking on their own headline tour this November and that will no doubt push them further to the forefront of the genre.

After Remember Monday closed out their set there was a DJ and line dancing session before Dasha arrived on stage full of energy and natural charm, oozing a confidence that only global superstars possess. The London crowd were immersed from the off, and hearing her rattle through tracks off her debut Country record ‘What Happens Now’ she showcased that the switch to the genre that was spearheaded by the viral hit ‘Austin’ was natural and something that has made her a truly authentic artist making music that she loves.

She owned every part of the stage, connecting with the crowd and ensuring that everyone went away feeling that they’d made their own connection with her, she knows how to draw in her fans and she does it extremely well. A beautiful moment came just before ‘Even Cowboys Cry’ when fans held up signs saying “We’re so proud of you” resulting in Dasha tearing up and thanking everyone for their foundational support. Another major standout moment was ‘Drown Me’ a track she rarely performs live, but decided to add it to the set list for London due to a request from a fan via Instagram. This allowed her to shine a light on her incredible vocal control.

Along with hits off her album. Dasha also debuted new songs including the infectious ‘Bye Bye Bye’ which is likely the next single from her ahead of the deluxe version of the record. She closed her barnstorming set with her global hit ‘Austin’ ending the night by jumping the stage barrier to join fans in the middle of the venue for a line dancing session to the smash. A moment that will live long in the memory of all in attendance.

Dasha is undoubtedly a superstar and one of country music’s most talented and exciting exports, the next time she plays London you can expect her to be playing a much, much larger venue than the 800 cap Scala she sold out last night.
