LIVE REVIEW: Bellah Mae @ Manchester Academy

Fresh off the back of their stunning collaboration ‘Overrated’, Bellah Mae and Warren Zeiders teamed up for a EU tour, with Mae being the opening act on the European leg of Warren’s tour dates, and she is wowing the crowds up and down the country with her pop-toned country offerings.

Since signing to Sony Music Nashville and relocating to Music City permanently earlier this year, Bellah Mae has seen her career go from strength to strength, and this summer she also played her first run of shows at the coveted CMA Fest in the heart of downtown Nashville.

And last night it was delightful to see the British singer/songwriter entertaining the Mancunian crowd at the Manchester Academy with her opening set before Warren Zeiders’ headlining set. Her showcase was filled with uptempo and bubbly moments, with her cover of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ being a particular crowd-pleaser, whilst ‘Drama King’ always gets the fans singing along.

Bellah Mae is an artist who never misses; she always perfectly incorporates those playful moments with some more gentle, thought-provoking moments on tracks such as ‘On Purpose ‘ and ‘Love Me Less ‘, which allows her songwriting and vocal prowess to take centre stage away from the polished pop crossovers she peppers throughout.

Last night, Mae undoubtedly left Manchester with more fans than she arrived with thanks to her energetic set list that delivers punchy, female empowerment moments, laced with coming-of-age lyrics that resonate with a wide and varied listenership who are either in those moments right now, or have lived through them.

Bellah Mae is a special talent, and she also teased fans with the unreleased ‘Platinum’ that showcases the depth of what she’s been working on whilst in Nashville, and this taster definitely whets the appetite for what’s to come.
