And now in 2020, he is sharing his brand new project in the form of ‘Songs I Grew Up On’ which sees him cover tracks from his early years that made an impact on him.
Here we speak exclusively to Levi Hummon to find out more about his latest releases, post quarantine plans, and staying creative whilst at home:
You recently launched your ‘Songs I Grew Up On’ project, what made you want to share this series at this time?
We actually recorded these three covers right before quarantine started. I wasn’t exactly sure when I should put them out, but it just felt like the right time. Part of the reason I wanted to put these out was because I wanted to make sure fans knew the music that had a big impact on me as a songwriter. I think sometimes music is the best way to explain.
How did you whittle down the song choice?
These were just the songs that stood out in my memory there’s a few others like “House Of The Rising Sun”, “The Cage”, and a bunch of others but I just went with my gut on these. They are also my favorite to sing.
What are you hoping fans take away from your versions?
I hope they have a better understanding of what inspires me and also I hope they are excited to hear them live.
Can you talk us through the recording process, how much effort went into making it unique to yourself etc?
I honestly just write like crazy. Sometimes 5 times a week. So I’m constantly creating, learning, and getting inspired. The songs that stick out the most are the ones we record.
With this covers project, what is your main goal in terms of global reach and streaming numbers?
This cover project was honestly just for fun. Zero expectations other than giving my fans something to listen to during quarantine. Right now “Wedding Dress” is still the focus.
What was the most challenging track to complete within the series?
Hmm “The Story” just because it’s pretty difficult vocally. Brandi is such a monster vocalist… I just wanted to do my best to hit the notes.
Along with these cover tracks, can we also expect original music from you soon?
Yes very soon. Stay tuned.
You’ve mentioned quarantine, so how are you staying creative during isolation?
Honestly just writing a ton and doing Zoom co-writes with friends. It is weird not living my normal life and there have been moments of being uninspired, but I think I’ve got a few good tunes.
What are your plans post quarantine?
TOUR. TOUR. TOUR!!
So, your fans can expect to see you back on the road as soon as it’s safe?
I plan on touring like crazy. I miss travelling, my fans, and my band! Can’t wait to see y’all soon.
