EXCLUSIVE: Dani Taylor Talks Debut Single ‘Girl Most Likely’

On Friday, August 28th fast-rising Nashville based singer/songwriter Dani Taylor will share her incredible debut single ‘Girl Most Likely’ which offers listeners a fresh new attitude-filled sonic sound that delivers a brilliant twist on the current country crossover stylistic we are all used to hearing across the charts and radio airwaves.

Here we chat exclusively with Dani Taylor to find out more about the forthcoming release ahead of its drop date:

How does it feel to be on the cusp of releasing your new single?

Terrifying, exciting, exhausting, and exhilarating all at once. A month ago I had a lot of stress over it, but now I am very excited and just “ready.” I am ready to show the country world exactly who I am and what I stand for.

Was this a track penned in lockdown, or was it completed before?

It was completed a month before the lockdown. It was recorded during lockdown which was the hard part because of social distancing. But, we were able to make it work because of technology and I am happy we live in the digital age, or else this song would not have been recorded till later.

Where did you look to for inspiration when creating the lyrical story?

Sometimes I am talking to someone and I say something or they’ll say something and it sounds good so I write it down in my inspiration hook book. Most of the time I try to find a common saying and twist it or use it to fit the story I want to tell. Like “Girl Most Likely” comes from the saying “most likely to” in high school. And it’s generally a negative thing to tell someone they’re most likely to be something that they’re not. So I put a spin on it by using “girl most likely” and saying “yeah I am the girl most likely…to be nothing like you thought.” It’s playful and positive and I love turning negative experience/energy into positive ones.

What do you hope listeners take away from the lyrics?

I hope it empowers them to be confident in who they are. I hope those going through a hard time, those who are bullied, or those who are told they’ll never be successful listen to this song and think to themselves “yeah I am the girl most likely.” I define “Girl Most Likely” as someone who proves people wrong. Someone who, even with the worst luck and people against them, comes out successful because they turned the negative things someone said about them into a positive. These people focus on their dreams and believe in themselves despite being the underdog. I want the underdogs to know they have a lot more power within themselves than they think. I want to empower them to use that power to rise above the negativity.

Who have you worked with to bring this project to life?

I co-wrote this song with Will Rambeaux and Sherrie Austin. It was then produced by Brad Hill and Dave Thompson.

How does it feel to be sharing new music during this semi lockdown period?

It’s nerve-wracking, but a blessing at the same time. People have a lot more time to discover new artists and music now more than ever.

Was it always the plan to drop this single at this point or has the current climate changed your plans?

I originally planned to drop another single on March 13th, but it wasn’t finished in time and then quarantine happened and by then I decided I wanted “Girl Most Likely” to be my debut single. So, it strangely worked out for the better.

Can we also expect this track to be accompanied by a music video?

Yes! The music video will be premiering on CMT.com on August 28th, the same day the song is being released.

How have you approached the promotional side of releasing new music during this time?

I am using all social media to get my single out there and heard by as many people as possible. I have a social media account on every social platform. Social media is the best vehicle to getting your music out there and heard by fans as well as reaching new audiences.

What else can we expect from you this year?

I have another single dropping in the fall and a special Christmas song dropping in November. They say when it rains it pours, and I have a lot of music I’ve been holding onto that is going to be released.
