EXCLUSIVE: Manny Blu Talks The Creation Of New Music During A Pandemic
Experienced country music influenced singer/songwriter Manny Blu had a successful 2020 despite being stuck indoors for much of the year due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, and on Friday, April 16th he will share his latest project with the world in the form of new single ‘Train’.
Here we chat exclusively with Manny Blu to discuss what it’s been like creating and sharing new music amidst a pandemic, and ‘Train’ in more detail:
Congratulations on your success last year, do you have a personal highlight from everything that happened?
Thank you! I think just finding the silver lining in these types of situations is super important. I’d say putting out New Ink was so cool. I put so much of my heart and soul into that EP and had been holding on to it for so long. I will say that the time off really gave me the ability to find out what I wanted to do moving forward as an artist and really work on my craft. Without COVID, I don’t know if I would’ve created Country Punk.
How did you find the process of sharing new music as the world was closing down around you?
Having an album recorded and ready, made the whole thing a little better because all we had to do was find the right time to start releasing the project. It was weird not being able to celebrate the singles, but at least we were able to play an album release party in Nashville. Plus, it was great to not feel like I had to rush a project at a time when a lot of music was coming out and people were at home consuming so much of it.
Did the opportunity to create and release new content keep you occupied during the long lockdown months?
No, I’d say it was more about self-discovery as an artist. Finding out what I really love about music, what got me started, and where I belong in country music. Finding the hole of what is needed and filling that void, and I think I’ll be doing that this year with everything we’ve got coming.
As we head into the middle part of 2021, how do you feel you have grown as an artist during this past twelve months?
I feel like I’ve grown massively. I truly feel like I’m finally hitting my stride with everything that I love and just being myself. When I got to Nashville, I wanted to belong and be authentically country, but in doing that I was not 100% authentic to myself… Now, everything I do is ME! It’s things like how I want to approach my career, it’s who I am. You can take it or leave it, but 2021 is the start of the Country Punk era!
You have a new single out soon, how excited are you to be sharing new music at this time?
SO EXCITED! I think it’s a perfect song to kick off the Country Punk era and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
What was the overall writing experience like for this new track?
I didn’t write it, but as soon as I heard the demo, it immediately struck me as something that I absolutely loved and I had to have it. I think there’s a little Rock N Roll fun that is missing in-country at the moment and I think my song “Train” brings it!
What are you hoping listeners take away from the songs message?
I hope people just listen to it and have fun. It’s not serious. The song is about having a “good time,” so I just hope people enjoy it for what it is and crank it up to 11 at parties or whenever they’re just having a good time.
Looking ahead, what else can we expect from you this year?
I’ll just say, expect the unexpected… I think this year I will really show how I’ve evolved as an artist, and how diverse I can be.
