EXCLUSIVE: Carrie Cunningham Talks New Single ‘Just A Bar Thing’
Fast-rising country crossover sensation Carrie Cunnigham recently wowed with the release of her brilliantly crafted pop-infused new single ‘Just A Bar Thing’ with the song garnering some serious attention from industry insiders and fans alike – this one has the potential to make waves across the globe.
Here we chat exclusively with Carrie Cunningham to discuss the track further:
Congratulations on the release of your latest single, how have you found the response so far?
Thank you!! So far, many people have said it is their favorite one!
What’s been your favourite part of this promotional campaign so far?
I think the reactions from the fans is my favorite thing!
Who have you worked with to bring this track to life?
I wrote it with two of my favorite co-writers, Steve Smentek and Ceri Earle. I have been working with Sean at Blue Grotto Sound in Brentwood, TN the past couple of years and so it was only right that I not only recorded this single at his place but also the whole album. I think the rhythmic hand claps he threw in, really sent the song over the top. Added that much more ear candy to the track!
What was the overall writing and recording process like for this song?
The recording was a lot of fun. Making gang vocals for the second verse made me feel like we really were at a bar having a great time with friends! As far as the writing process went, I had told Ceri and Steve about an incident where my dad gave his phone to some random guy at a bar one night, who happened to have lived in a town I use to live in. Anyway, he left a voice memo on my phone saying we should hook up and I was good looking etc. When I received the voice message the next morning, I scolded my dad. He laughed and said, “Oh Carrie, it’s just a bar thing.” I told my dad I was going to write that title. So, Steve, Ceri and I ran with it.
What are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrical story?
Oh, it’s just a feel-good song. We all need those every now and then. Plus, women do appreciate a guy hitting on us at a bar, as long as he doesn’t invade our space and become annoying! Being attractive doesn’t hurt! I mean, we could like them for their personality too…lol
Do you have any set goals in mind for this offering?
I’m hoping it does well and people add it to their playlists and share the heck out of it, lol! I’m also hoping they listen and like other songs on the Showgirl Series!
Can we expect this track to act as a launchpad for a full-length project?
No, but it is part of the Showgirl album that is coming at the end of the year. “Showgirl” is the title track and album name.
Looking ahead, what else does this year hold for you?
I have been busy with the new singles every month on the 11th. I have also been writing songs to pitch and possibly for me down the road. I have also been building up my other side hustles in the auctioneering world. My wheel is rolling nonstop!
