EXCLUSIVE: Casi Joy Talks New Single ‘The Money’

Nashville based country influenced crossover artist Casi Joy recently wowed with her newest single titled ‘The Money’ which is currently garnering huge numbers across multiple streaming platforms whilst rising up the digital download charts across the globe, and her star is only set to rise even further this year.

Here we chat exclusively to Casi Joy to discuss her latest single in more detail:

How excited are you to be sharing new music?

I’m beyond excited to finally release new music after almost a year! I’m especially excited for my latest release “The Money,” because I’ve been sitting on this one for quite a while! Every time I put something new out, I feel like I’m opening up my brain and heart to the world, and letting people into what’s been going on in there lately. It’s always exciting, but definitely nerve-racking just wondering how it will be received!

What can listeners expect from your latest release?
My goal with “The Money” was to write a fun take on the financial struggles that so many of us go through at least at some point or another. Especially this past year. Sometimes, the hold that money has over our happiness totally sucks, but I hope this song brings a smile to people’s faces and gets their head bobbing even if we’re all singing it on an empty wallet!

Can you give us a little insight into who you’ve worked with to bring this vision to life?

I wrote this song alone, but bringing it to life, and to what you hear today, couldn’t have happened without my producer Sean Giovanni at The Record Shop! I was also so very grateful and humbled to have a star-studded band on this one. Just to name a couple, we had Lee Hendrix on bass (Eric Church), who actually played on my first EP Love on Repeat 5 years ago! His sound and talent is like none other! We also had David Dorn on keys, who’s played on sessions for Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A, Tim McGraw, and more. Right when the guys heard my demo, they knew exactly what the song wanted to sound like. It all just came together so smoothly and naturally. I’m so proud of how it turned out! It’s exactly like it was in my head when I was writing it.

Do you have any set goals in mind for this track?

I really want people to just feel good listening to this song. It’s about money struggles, that I know are very real for so many, but the way I wrote it was to make that struggle a little more light-hearted. Sometimes you’ve just gotta laugh! And also, I suppose I wouldn’t hate to make a little money off a song I wrote about being broke! The hopeful success of this song will help me to be able to keep releasing more music. It’s not cheap to record, promote, shoot music videos, etc. And since I’m independent, it’s all coming out of my pocket. So, unfortunately, it’s about the money, which is ironically what my song is about.

Can we expect a full album to follow soon?

I hope so! I’d like to release some more singles before that because I want to make sure I do my first album at the right time. I do have a cover album and a Christmas album out, but for an original project, I want to wait until the time feels right. It’s also been a silent dream of mine to release my first original album with a major label. Gotta have big goals!

How do you see your sound fitting into the current country music world?

My sound is pretty eclectic because my musical influences are all over the place! I write traditional country sometimes, but other times, my writing’s got some more pop or rock influences. Just depends on my mood, and what I’m into at the time! Someone once told me that my sound is like if Patsy Cline and Pat Benetar got into a bar fight, and Carrie Underwood came in to be the referee. I’ll take that!

What’s it been like creating and releasing new music during this time?

When the world shut down, I couldn’t just do nothing, so it definitely made me create more. My writing, admittedly, sometimes gets put on the back burner, because I tour so much, and we’re always moving so quickly. It’s hard to find the time to slow down long enough to write a song! So the pandemic did give me the slow-down to write several songs at least! I was actually planning to release “The Money” right before the pandemic hit, but it just didn’t seem like the right time for the song. I ended up writing another one called “Poor Angel,” which is the most vulnerable song I’ve ever written. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to release it, but when the pandemic hit, I knew it was a song my fans needed, so “The Money” got put on pause. Sometimes you just have to let the music tell you what to do with it. I connected with my fans more than ever over quarantine, and I think releasing such a vulnerable song during an unprecedented time really helped with that. I got to show my fans that I too was struggling through all this, even though I am usually promoting positivity and all things smiles. I didn’t think it was fair to keep them on a highlight reel and let them believe they were different or less than for struggling; we ALL were. Once I released “Poor Angel” and really opened up to my fans about how I was doing with the pandemic, we went through the rest of it together. I’m so grateful for that experience and the relationship I’ve built with my Joyfriends.

Following on from your Voice success where are you looking to take your career next?

The Voice was an unforgettable experience! My goal is to shoot for the moon because even if I miss, I will land amongst the stars. That has really been a driving theme for me, and I think it holds true even now. I hope to make a positive and measurable impact on the next generation of artists, and continue to grow any way I can. I love the stage, and can’t imagine life any other way. So in the meantime, I am just going to continue making the best music I can, and hopefully getting to a bigger stage with every release.
