EXCLUSIVE: Lisa Nicole Talks Debut Album ‘Where Wild Hearts Beat’

Back in mid-August, on-the-rise Canadian country music singer/songwriter Lisa Nicole made waves with the release of her impressive full-length studio album ‘Where Wild Hearts Beat’ with the collection putting the spotlight on the potential she has both as a vocalist, and as a songwriter.

Here we chat exclusively with Nicole to discuss the record further:

How does it feel to have your debut record out in the world?

So good!! It’s been a good 3 years in the making, and I even have songs on there that I wrote 5 years ago. I am over the moon happy about this album. Everyone who was involved made it more than I could ever hope for.

What was the writing experience like for this project?

Most of the writing for this album was done in Nashville. I moved down there for a bit to hone in on my songwriting, and it paid off. I’ve been going to Nashville to write since 2012 and building those songwriting relationships. For this album, I was able to get in the room with many hit songwriters and fellow artists.

What are you hoping listeners take away from the soundtrack?
If you’re listening to this album – I hope you can connect with it. I hope you fist pump and dance in your seat to “Do Your Thang” and can sing along to the repetitive hook in “Count On You” or “Wait On Me.” For songs like “He’ll Be With You” and “Dear Mama”, I hope they can pull at your heartstrings. There’s a little bit of everything on this album, except a break-up song. haha – It’s mostly feel good songs and emotional songs that provide optimism through comfort and understanding.

Do you have any set goals in mind for this LP?
My set goals would be tons of streams and casting a wide net across media and socials to allow people to discover it. More than that, I hope it connects with people and that they love it.

Who have you worked with to help bring this vision to life?
I’m so glad you asked this!! The team behind this album is just amazing. My producer Jeff Johnson was fantastic. It was a thrill to have my music partner of 16 years, Jason Thomas, playing all the guitar parts. Plus Tonnie Stewart sang background on “Wait On Me” – she’s been a mentor of mine since I was a teenager. My co-writers were also key in the development of this album – Dave Pahanish, Phil Barton, Brian White, Tenille Arts, Mallory Johnson, Beth Marie Anderson, as well as Jason Thomas and Jeff Johnson – an amazing team all around!!

Is there one song in particular that you’re most excited about sharing?
Aside from all the songs I’ve already released – “He’ll Be With You” is one of the previously unreleased songs on the album. It’s a personal and sad story about my best friend losing her husband in a tragic accident. I was living in Nashville at the time and I couldn’t physically be there when it happened. This song is my story for her.

The album is currently being led by ‘Gypsy Girl’, how have you found the response to that song so far?
So good!! People loving the song AND the video! Fans are saying “Love this Lisa!! My life relates to this song!!” and that they are just loving it!

Looking ahead, what else does the year have in store for you?
We’ve got some fun press scheduled! And working on more live shows – I did a hometown release show and I love playing live. It’s coming back, slowly but surely! Outside of this, I haven’t had much of a chance to even play my singles live, so I’m excited to hit the stage with all my new music. With all my music now, I’ve finally got a 2 hour show of my original music.
