EXCLUSIVE: Olivia Rose Talks New Single ‘Gold’

Earlier in the year, on-the-rise country music sensation Olivia Rose released her sensational new single ‘Gold’ and the record will shortly be sent to Country Radio allowing for it to reach even more ears which will give it the platform to become one of this year’s biggest breakout hits.

Here we chat exclusively with Olivia Rose to discuss the track in more detail:

Your new single gets sent to Country Radio later this month, how excited are you about the forthcoming airplay?

“Gold” is going to be officially released to radio here on March 15th! I’m so excited, there’s so much support when it comes to country radio in Canada – not just on primary chart reporting stations but also on secondary stations around the country. It’s going to be so nice to see all my favourite radio hosts (virtually of course) and get to talk about the song.

How’s it been sharing new music amidst a pandemic?

I had huge plans for last summer which included a full tour of the province of Ontario that went down the drain. The original plan was to release “Gold” during this time so I could go in and visit all the stations out East that have given me support in the past. When the pandemic happened, we had to switch up the whole plan! It’s been challenging, of course, but pretty fun because it really gave me a different viewpoint on how to make it work only using the internet!

Is releasing and creating new songs helping keep your mind on track during this time?

100% definitely! Due to the pandemic, I had to stop performing live. This really sucked and I found it took a toll on my mental health, so I channeled that energy into songwriting. Having to step back from live performances really gave me the opportunity to focus on becoming a better songwriter and writing more material.

Can you give us a little insight into the writing and recording experience for this track?

“Gold” was written with my good friend David Borys! I’ve written with Dave many times before we wrote “Gold”, so we always end up talking about life and what we’ve been up to before diving into songwriting. I was writing a lot of sad, breakup songs, but just before we started this one, I shared a line I had that was stuck in my head. It was “you are gold baby, solid gold” and Dave just loved it! So we came out of it with an unapologetic, happy love song! I got the opportunity to record this song with CCMA Award-winning producer Bart McKay! I drove out to Saskatoon in my neighboring province to record the vocals for “Gold” (as well as my last single) in one day! Although tiring, it felt super rewarding to get all that done so quickly. Bart did such a great job at making sure I was nothing but 100% happy with how the song was turning out and that is such a significant thing to have in a producer!

Who else have you worked with to create this release?

With releasing this song during a pandemic, I knew I really wanted to work with a publicist. I’ve been working with Jasper Anson with NovaCurrent Public Relations. We met a few years ago and knew we wanted to work with each other and so now felt like the best time to start that partnership! The lyric video, album art, and some other graphic design elements were created by my good friend Julianna Laine with NotYourDesigner. It was super fun working with her and going back and forth with what the vision for the song would look like!

Do you have any set goals in mind for this single?

I would love for “Gold” to reach a wider audience and build relationships with new fans of country music. Something that has really been helping make that happen has been TikTok! It’s really cool to see how wide a reach country music has right here in Canada and also in other countries around the world.

What are you hoping listeners will take from the lyrical story?

This song is really a no-strings-attached love song. It’s happy! The person you think is “solid gold” doesn’t even have to be a significant other, it can be your best friend, a parent. It’s just about someone in your life that you feel truly blessed to have there.

Looking ahead, what else can we expect from you this year?

Recording an album is a dream that I’ve had ever since I was a little girl and so I felt there was no better time than now to start working on one! I’m still deciding exactly which songs I’ve written are going to go on the record and I certainly have some co-writes coming up that I’m super excited about but you can definitely expect a lot of storytelling.
