EXCLUSIVE: Twinnie Talks Releasing a Debut LP During Lockdown
Releasing a debut album is exhilarating and nerve-racking for any artist but for country crossover sensation Twinnie it was made truly unique by the fact she shared her first studio offering ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ during the UK lockdown which has been enforced by the British government in response to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID -19) global pandemic.
Here we chat exclusively to the York singer/songwriter to find out what it’s been like sharing a record during quarantine, forthcoming tour plans, and upcoming US Radio EP:
Congratulations on the release of ‘Hollywood Gypsy’, how have you found the response so far?
The response has been amazing, everybody’s been so supportive and lovely!!!
Despite the obvious logistical hurdles you have had to overcome due to the Coronavirus lockdown, how does it feel to now have your debut record out in the world?
It feels great having the album out, obviously not being able to tour it is a shame right now but in all honesty, I feel lucky that my album was finished and was able to be released. I’ve waited so long for it to come out I’m just happy other people can hear what I’ve been working on.
Both fans and critics have likened it to 90s Shania Twain in terms of sonic sound, how do you feel about that comparison?
I personally feel I’m not worthy of that massive compliment. I mean not only is she one of the biggest selling female artists, but her music is also timeless. I love her and she is an inspiration of mine but I think it’s more a credit to the producers on my album regarding the sonic sound. I like to write upbeat stuff, I love making people dance so with the production I feel we must have done something right for people to say that.
Although in lockdown when the album released, how have you found the promotion side of the LP, have some things been made easier due to having more time at home?
To be honest we really haven’t been able to do that much promo. I did Sunday Brunch from home with the boys when it was first released but other than that just online stuff here and there. Logistically it’s easier but it’s hard with online stuff because my WiFi is so slow.
Whilst at home you’ve also been working on new music, what kind of themes can we expect to be covered across your sophomore record?
Just more Twinnie tales haha.
You’ve also been recording your debut EP for US Country radio, when can we expect that to hit the airwaves?
Literally no idea maybe 2043 haha! I don’t know everything has been put on hold and rightly so. Everyone has to be safe and I want to be able to enjoy it in a normal setting but hopefully, as the country starts to open up I’ll be able to get back to Nashville soon.
Along with the LP being released, you’re also set to tour in November, how excited are you take these songs out on the road?
Very excited!! At least people have plenty of time to learn the lyrics to all my songs haha.
You’ve performed on multiple tours but this will be your first headlining one, what can fans expect from your set?
To be entertained, I’ve been isolating with my mum in York and we’ve been doing a fair amount of stuff on social media and might make her part of it.
The tour is of the UK but do you also have plans to play across America when governments allow travel to other destinations?
I hope that I will tour America but we’ll see, at the minute I’m taking one day at a time.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for the album when you’re able to have the CD in stores, do you hope to do any signings?
Would love to do all the above, it’s my first album so a lot of things that you would expect to happen on release never did for me because of the current situation so I’m hoping when everything calms down and things go back to normal I can hopefully start doing some of those things.
