LIVE REVIEW: Kevin McGuire, Emma & Jolie, and Tebey @ Nashville Meets London
Last night (Thursday, July 22nd) Music and Tour News were able to review our very first in-person live concert since launching the site back in 2020. Due to COVID restrictions we have been unable to get out to gigs, but after a long wait, yesterday we saw Kevin McGuire, Emma & Jolie, and Tebey delivering outstanding sets.
The incredible event which was a part of the Nashville Meets London Presents series, was held at the intimate Pizza Express Live venue in Holborn, London with the showcase hosted by Absolute radio DJ Matt Spracklen who once again did a brilliant job of making sure everybody felt welcome.
The evening kicked-off with a surprise two-song performance from UK country act Tim Prottey-Jones who showcased his brand new single ‘Fire’, demonstrating a killer live-vocal and stellar on-stage prescene that set a marker for what was to come later in the show from the three main performers on the bill.
Kicking off the main event was Scotland’s Kevin McGuire who was performing his first live show back since the shutdown started back in March of last year, and despite admitting to feeling nervous delivered a truly outstanding vocal, and easy on-stage charm that quickly won over the London crowd.
He is clearly destined for big things and yesterday he shone a light on his remarkable talent with performances of hit singles including ‘Seeing Things’, and ‘Hottest One Yet’, alongside a gorgeous acoustic rendition of Enrique Iglesias’ ‘Escape’. Kevin also debuted new material with ‘Killing Time’ being a real highlight of the gig.
British country duo Emma & Jolie then took to the stage, for what was incredibly only their fourth concert together -something you’d never have guessed from the way they demanded the attention of the rapt crowd. Delivering a banter-filled set that was spearheaded by their gorgeous vocals it’s easy to see why they have risen up the ranks so fast.
A selection of their singles were played out including ‘I Don’t Need A Man’, and ‘How Do I Choose’, but the real wow moments came when they performed several new songs including the anthemic, feel-good ‘Pink Lemonade’, and the outstanding ‘Glitters’, both of which have the potential to become global hits.
Closing out the evening was Canadian born, US based hitmaker Tebey who brought his unique crossover soundscape to the show following a five-day quarantine in London to ensure he was able to hit the stage. He is one of those artists that quickly draws in the crowd and he did that with an ease last night.
Stand out moments included his showcase of latest single ‘Song Of The Summer’, and his truly mesmerising cover of ‘Wake Me Up’ which resulted in a full-scale sing-a-long from the packed crowd at the little Pizza Express venue – a wonderful memory for Tebey to take back to the States.
Overall, last night was an outstanding highlight reel of what we have to offer the country scene here in the UK with three of our finest artists blowing away the audience with their talent whilst the international act reminded us of why we all love to visit Nashville so much, such is the wealth of talent they have over there.
