SINGLE REVIEW: Matthew Frederick’s ‘Laura jones’

Welsh singer/songwriter Matthew Frederick earlier this year released his impressive debut studio album ‘Fragments’, the record was released via Staylittle Music and was made available to purchase on CD, stream and download across all major platforms. The tracklist included breakout hits ‘Tell Me’, ‘Hay-on-Wye’, and ‘Pink Blossom Snow’ and signaled the beginning of a burgeoning musical career for Matthew.

Now the Rhondda based artist is gearing up for the release of the fourth official single to be taken off the LP; ‘Laura Jones’. A new single version of the track will formally release on July 3rd across all streaming and download outlets and will no doubt allow Frederic to reach an even wider audience.

‘Laura Jones’ has been written by Matthew Frederick, and co-produced with Jethro Chaplin, it was recorded and mixed by Jethro at Mwnci Studios before being mastered by Donal Whelan at Hafod Mastering and is a poignant guitar-led offering that allows for Matthew’s gentle vocal deliver to really shine.

Production-wise it is a stunning mix of country, and folk sounds that crossover to create an eclectic sound that is totally unique to Frederic as an artist and songwriter and allows him to really stand out in the crowd as a folk/country performer who is ready to take the scene by storm.

There is a real market for the soft Americanna sound right now, with The Wandering Hearts and Wildwood Kin in particular opening doors for the genre and UK artists to share their take on the predominately US-based sonic style. And with ‘Laura Jones’ Matthew Frederick truly fits himself into that realm and showcases he is ready to become a significant name within the market.
