SINGLE REVIEW: Whispering Bob’s All-Star ‘Stand By Me’
On October 27th 60 years to the day, Ben E. King shared the original version Whispering Bob Harris’ all-star rendition of ‘Stand By Me’ will be released to the world with all proceeds going directly to Help Musicians UK in order to support struggling artists through the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
The track sees some of the most talented homegrown an international country artists coming together on the record including the likes of Twinnie, Jimmie Allen, Darius Rucker, Ward Thomas, The Shires, Laura Oakes, and Wildwood Kin to name a few, and together they have created one luscious harmony that is truly stunning.
Put together during lockdown all the performers sent their recordings over to be pieced together and the result is phenomenal, it’s rich in country stylistics and overlayed with breathtaking understated production styles and glorious vocals from some of the globes most impressive artists.
Given room to breathe each singer featured gets their time to shine individually but it’s when they come together on the soaring chorus that the cover version of ‘Stand By Me’ really bursts into life and becomes a wonderful updated rendition of the all-time classic hit that is Bob Harris’ favorite song of all time.
There’s always something special about a country collective offering and this gorgeous delivery of the Ben E. King classic is remarkable whilst the added addition of pop and rock musicians elevates the song and gives it an added dimension and will no doubt allow it to reach an even wider audience.
