EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Kevin McGuire Talks New Single ‘A Little Sun
This Friday (November 25th), Scottish country music singer/songwriter Kevin McGuire returns with his brand new and eagerly awaited single titled ‘A Little Sun’ which delivers a powerful message that things get better and that there is always hope which is something we all need to hear right now.
Here we chat exclusively with Kevin mcGuire to discuss the song in more detail:
You have a new single arriving on November 25, how excited are you to be sharing new music?
I am more excited than I’ve ever been. I know artists probably say that a lot but this is a big step for me. It’s different to anything I’ve done before and I feel like I’m in such a great place right now. I can’t wait to see how people react (hopefully well, haha!)! 🙂
This feels like the beginning of a new era and a big 2023, would you say that’s a fair assessment?
For sure! The end of summer was really difficult for me. There were a lot of things I had to come to terms with, particularly with country [music] here in the UK and how it’s evolving. There aren’t a huge amount of opportunities strictly within the country world here, so it’s about getting out there in front of as many people as I can, no matter what avenue. The chains are off, and I’m ready to go!
How do you feel your sound has progressed since you began releasing music a few years back?
I’m hoping straight away you’ll hear in the new records. I’ve learned a LOT from live concerts and from my manager John, about what’s really important and gigs, and what gets a crowd going. It’s super tough for Country artists here in the UK going for a Nashville sound, because it’s so difficult to get major radio play with it. There’ve been so many things to consider, whilst staying true to myself and the music I love. This is what I’m all about, and I hope that comes across in my sound.
With this new single, how would you describe the overall vibe?
‘A Little Sun’ is an honest, uplifting song about the journey to finding hope during the toughest of times. Being there for people around you who need it. A record I feel can reach out to people this time of year, particularly moving into the darker months. It’s driving, four-to-the-floor, with a lot more folky elements, really taking me back to my roots!
Do you have any set goals in mind for the track?
The most important thing to me with any release is that I love it and that I’m super proud of it. I then just want other people to enjoy it! After that, improving on the success of previous releases is the goal. Let’s see!
We’re starting to close out 2022, will this be your final release of the year?
Probably (but never say never)! If it is – it won’t be long until the next one that’s for sure! It’s already written and in the production stages!
As we head into 2023, what can we expect from you next year? – A tour? Album? EP?
ALL of the above, haha! As you’ll have seen I’m over the moon to be collaborating with the incredible George Bowie on some country-dance records. I don’t think that’ll be the last you hear of that! In terms of my own songs, there’ll be plenty. I never, ever like putting pressure on myself for certain releases and tours. As long as I’m working hard and constantly making music, the songs will keep coming!
Do you have a message for your fans who’ve supported your music so far?
Firstly, thank you. Thank you for sticking by me even through the ‘quiet’ periods where I’ve been away working on my records. I’m never gonna disappear and stop making music, and all I can do is keep trying to give you my best, and that’s what I’ll keep doing. This is a journey, and you keep me going!
