EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Logan Michael Chats Backstage At CMA Fest

CMA Fest is always a whirlwind of incredible performances and small snatches of time with incredible artists and backstage in the media room here at Music and Tour News we were lucky to grab a few minutes with rising country artist Logan Michael to discuss his music, touring plans and more.

So, you haven’t long finished your set at CMA Fest how was that experience for you?

Yeah, we just finished a little bit ago. It was so good. It was my first CMA Fest performance so it was fun. The 50th anniversary is a cool one to start at.

And you’ve recently released new music ‘Home’ and have more on the way?

Yeah, we shared that one a little while ago and have a new one coming out too.

How has the response been to ‘Home’?

It’s been good and this one is a little different it has kinda like a Lumineers vibe.

Amazing, that’ll offer the listeners something a little different from you?

Yeah, I try to do something a little different and the next one is pretty much straight down country

So is that vibe you’re going for from now on or are you going to try and mix it up with each release?

We’re trying to mix it up you know and keep people excited just some more pop stuff some more downright country stuff and pretty much just keep them on their toes.

Do you have any tour plans lined up on the back of CMA Fest?

Yeah, next month I’m headlining a country fest in Massachusetts and then I’m doing a couple of shows with Tyler Hubbard and then we’re trying to set up a headlining tour so that’ll be fun.

Amazing, will you try and do any UK dates?

The UK, yeah at some point hopefully. I’m not at that point yet I don’t think but hopefully at some point. Hopefully next year you never know we’ll see.

Going back to the music do you have any fun collaborations lined up?

Right now, no it’s pretty much just all me. me and Kidd G did a couple of songs together and those are already out but I’m trying to find the right fit for a duet.

Do you do a lot of co-writes?

Yeah, down here I write a lot of my stuff but a lot of the songs that are already out I wrote myself but I also do a lot of co-writes all the time. It’s definitely different and you get some different ideas something you wouldn’t think of, somebody else does – it’s helpful.

Would you say songwriting is your favourite part of the creative process?

I think so yeah. Writing songs and being able to have it come together from nothing is really interesting just like having it flow and figuring out how you want the song to sound is just definitely different. It’s cool

So, have you been writings songs since you were really young?

No, I played the electric guitar in middle school but I put it down and then I was a senior in high school I was obsessed with country so I was like “I’m gonna learn how to do some covers” so I taught myself how to play acoustic and I was like “I’m gonna write some of my own songs” so I started doing that and then one day I went up to my mom and asked, “hey, can I record this song?”. Found a producer that has produced all of my stuff and it kinda just went from there and I just kept writing. It’s cool to see how things change.

Do you currently have any plans for a full-length album?

Yeah, I don’t know what I’m allowed to say haha but we got a single coming out in a few weeks and I’m working on probably like a seven song EP. We’ll probably release that and then maybe another project too. we’re building up the songs we got a stack of songs right now

So, looking ahead this year. what’s your major goal?

Hopefully, like I know my first headline tour is not going to be big places probably like 600-1,000 cap venues but hopefully, we just sell it out maybe get another couple of songs and hopefully by the end of the year maybe a number 1, maybe. That’s the goal but we’ll see, you gotta put it out in the air you gotta manifest it.

And looking back on your career to date, what would be your number 1 highlight so far?

ooh, that’s a good one. I don’t know I feel like today’s probably up there; playing CMA Fest 50th anniversary. It’s pretty cool. Like the way people react to the songs and there’s a few of them that have helped a lot of people and they tell me that and every time I hear that, that hits different. Cos like I’m just a dude who wrote those songs in his bedroom, and when it connects with people like that it’s something special and it feels really good.

Was there one particular song growing up that did that for you?

Oof, I don’t know that’s a lot. I grew up on Alan Jackson so maybe ‘Drive’, or ‘Where Are You’ those ones hit really well.

Okay, so one last question for you, what’s your message to your growing UK fanbase?

Ah, show your friends my music, if you like it keep listening and I just really appreciate anybody who listens or is a fan. But it’s crazy that people in the UK are listening to my music and I just really appreciate it, it’s insane. It’s mind-blowing.
