Phillipa Cookman Announces Debut Single ‘Greasy Mabel’
On the rise country music artist, Phillipa Cookman has formally announced that her eagerly awaited debut single ‘Greasy Mabel’ will be made available to stream and download across all platforms from Friday, August 14th with the track promising to be one of the major standouts of 2020.
Having been a live performer for over 15 years, Cookman found herself with some time on her hands during the enforced lockdown as she was unable and still is largely unable to partake in her usual onstage role, so instead decided to refocus her energy on creating her own music and ‘Greasy Mabel’ was born.
It was during quarantine that Phillipa decided to keep herself busy by recording a full-length album of all her dad’s (the late Brian Cookman) incredible songs that he has written of the years The tracks were all originally penned and recorded during the 1970s and early 80s and the first offering is a reimaging of the classic ‘Greasy Mabel’.
Speaking about the quirky lyrical story weaved throughout her debut single which drops this Friday ahead of the full LP which is expected soon, Phillipa Hookman states: “‘Greasy Mabel’s a tongue-in-cheek, unrequited love song between a trucker and the roadhouse waitress they fall in love with”
Both the forthcoming single and album from Phillipa promise to be hugely impressive releases that will showcase the outstanding songwriting talents of Brian Cookman whilst also shining a light on his daughter’s stellar vocal ability and creative genius as she breathes new life into the classics.
