EXCLUSIVE: Liddy Clark Talks Creating Whilst In Quarantine

With lockdowns being enforced across most countries due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, artists have found themselves having to look for new ways to stay creative whilst staying at home with many live opportunities being unattainable for the time being. One of those performers is Liddy Clark who has been staying creative whilst in quarantine making new music and sharing new songs.

Here we chat exclusively with Liddy Clark to find out more about her mindset and creative process during lockdown:

How has your lockdown experience been, have you been staying creative?
It’s been quite a whirlwind! I find that my creativity stages come in waves, there are some weeks where I’m writing every single day and others when I can’t even think about playing guitar. It’s tough being stuck inside all the time, so I think it’s good to switch things up every once in a while.

How have you found quarantine has affected your creativity?
I feel like the past few months have made me even more aware of my habits when it comes to writing, like how I’ll spend more time writing some weeks over others. It’s also given me the opportunity to go back over voice memos and notes I completely forgot about, so it’s nice to go back to that.

Have you been continuing to co-writes during lockdown via Zoom etc?
I actually have yet to do a Zoom cowrite! I haven’t really been co-writing the past year or so anyway, I’ve really been focused on honing in on who I am as an artist without anyone else in the room and getting that vision ready for my upcoming releases.

Have you found that any new songs you’ve been creating have been inspired by the current situation?
I’ve definitely mentioned being stuck inside many times in my recent songs actually, but I don’t necessarily hit the issue on the nose by stating I’m 6 feet apart or anything. I think these times can inspire a lot of lonely feelings, and so whenever I get into one of those moods I try and tap into that for songwriting.

You have new music on the horizon, was that written before, or during quarantine?
Some before and some during! I actually did a lot of the recording for it in my small home studio (really just a corner of my bedroom with a mic). It was really interesting to get to record like that and send the vocal stems to my producer, I feel like I was a little more comfortable than I usually am in studios.

What kind of subjects can we expect to see you cover during the releases?
All kinds of subjects! I feel like the center of this album is about growing as a person and all the uncomfortableness that comes with it. There are good times and bad times. I also talk a lot about different cities and that’s inspired by a lot of the travel I’ve done and different people I’ve met in college.

Can you give us a little teaser of your next single, eg a little lyrical taste, etc?
I’m actually not sure what the next single is quite yet! I’m deciding between a few now, but it will probably mention roses or knowing something between two people.

Do you have any plans to also release a full-length album anytime soon?
Yes! We’re still piecing together all of the dates and releases, but I’m planning on releasing new music before 2020 is over.

With your new music in the pipeline, can we expect to see you touring when it’s safe to do so?
I sincerely hope so! I miss the stage so much, but I do understand how important it is that we keep our loved ones safe right now in these insane times. I’ll definitely be doing some live-stream performances every once in a while!

Looking ahead, what does the rest of the year hold for you?
Well, I start my last year of college soon, virtually of course. So I’m excited to finish that up and start figuring out the release plan for these new songs! I’ll also probably foster a few dogs in the meantime.
