EXCLUSIVE: Carly Pearce Talks 2020 Success and New Single ‘Show Me Around’

Despite a turbulent twelve months, US country music sensation Carly Pearce has had phenomenal success with her music throughout 2020 and has cemented her status as one of the leading female vocalists within the genre and her latest single, a moving tribute to the late and very much missed Busbee, ‘Show Me Around’ is one of the most beautiful songs you’re ever likely to hear.

Here we chat exclusively with Carly Pearce to discuss her incredible year, and latest hit in further detail:

Congratulations on the success at the CMA Awards, how does it feel to be getting so much recognition this year?

Oh my gosh, what a way to end this crazy weird year! Being a part of country music is truly all I have ever wanted in my life. To feel like I took a huge step in the right direction and was recognized by the CMAs in such a big way makes me feel like I am walking in the right direction. I am so grateful.

You also performed with Charles Kelley at the event, what was that experience like?

I have always been such a fan of Charles’ voice. His tone and range is one of a kind and one of the best in the business. It was such an honor to share this moment with him, and I actually had considered him to initially sing this song with me– so I finally got to see what that would’ve been like!

I Hope You’re Happy Now has been the source of so much success for you this year, did you have a feeling at the time of writing that this would be huge?

I certainly didn’t know it was going to be this big of a song, but I will tell you that when we wrote it and when I was recording it in the studio I remember thinking “Gosh, THIS feels like ME.”

You’ve also recently shared Next Girl, how are you finding the response so far?

The response has been amazing! I feel like this is the song that every girl either needs, needed, or knows someone who does. I also think it’s giving life to all those female 90s country anthems that I so desperately miss on country radio.

How have you found the experience of sharing new music during this period?

I think this is a unique time for touring musicians because really the only thing we can control is the music we are writing and putting out. I feel very inspired during this time, so I am focusing on making sure that I am making the best music possible.

Speaking of new music, you have just released your new single ‘Show Me Around’, how excited are you for fans to hear this song?

This song is so incredibly special to me. My late producer, Busbee, was such a large part in getting me to this place in my career. “Show Me Around” is for him, but also for anyone who has lost someone they love. I hope it brings a sense of comfort and also a beautiful perspective of how our loved ones are finding all of the things they want to show us in heaven when we get there.

Can we expect these singles to act as the launch pad of your forthcoming album?

These are definitely the beginning of my new music, yes! I am not sure what exactly an “album” looks like, because I feel right in the middle of creating it. However, I’m happy that I was able to get two songs out this year that have come from this new season in my life. I am really proud of them.

Looking ahead, what plans have you put in place for 2021 for when safety measures allow us to move freely?

I don’t feel like I have any SET plans, as we are all kind of waiting to see what is going to happen with touring. However, I remain hopeful that we will at least get to play more shows than we did in 2020 and I will continue to do what I always do– write the best music I can and find ways to connect with the fans I love so much.
