EXCLUSIVE: Becca Bowen Talks New Single ‘Just Be You’

Earlier this year on-the-rise country crossover performer Becca Bowen shared her uplifting, inspirational new single ‘Just Be You’ which has been inspired by her daughters and is a message of hope and a reminder that you should never let outside voices cloud your judgment of who you really are.

Here we chat exclusively with Becca Bowen to discuss the track in more detail:

Congratulations on the release of your new single, how have you found the response so far?

The response has been overwhelming. I never imagined that it would touch lives like it has. I’ve received a lot of positive feedback. When I chose the song I wanted it to have a message that would reach people. The message of this song is powerful and I am grateful that I have been able to share it with my fans.

How have you found the process of releasing new music during this time?

A lot of things have changed in the music industry because of the pandemic. I took this time to really focus on writing and recording. For me, it brought me to a place of vulnerability and I was able to tap into that and create heartfelt lyrics. I have been fortunate to still be able to release music during these difficult times.

Can you give us a little insight into the recording process?

A lot goes on behind the scenes before a singer gets behind a studio microphone. It takes a team to narrow down the music and decide what will be the next release. Then musicians start laying down the tracks and perfecting every instrument that is placed in the music. The producer and artist will listen over these tracks for a week or so and make sure it’s going in the direction that they feel is needed to show the artist’s style and talent. From there I will start laying down vocals. Over the next few weeks, more instruments are added and background vocals. Then it goes to be mixed and mastered. I have an amazing producer and he always captures exactly what I would like my music to sound like. I want to release music that I am proud of.

Who have you worked with to bring this vision to life?

The songwriters of this song are Ronnie Bowman, Kylie Sackley, and Lance Miller. They created a truly inspirational song with a beautiful message. I have been fortunate to be able to work with Sal Oliveri who has many number 1 hits under his belt. I have a fantastic team behind me and as I always say, teamwork makes the dream work!

What was the main inspiration when deciding to release this track?

I am a single mother and I have always told my children to be who they are and find happiness in being true to themselves. When this song was pitched to me I knew it was the perfect song to record because it was everything I have always said to my daughters.

What are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrical story?

I am hoping that they will be inspired. If I can make a difference in one person’s life, then I did what I set out to do. I want everyone who is struggling and not feeling that they are enough to know they are beautiful just the way they are. You do not have to fit in a certain mold to be amazing!

Along with sharing the official audio, you’re also dropping the music video soon for ‘Just Be You’, what was the filming day like for the project?

I always look forward to doing a music video because it tells the story. It visually takes you through the lyrics of the song. This was so exciting for me because both of my daughters are in my music video. I wanted to be able to give this to them as a gift. Something they could always look back on and have those memories with me. I can’t watch it without crying because it truly captured a mother’s love for her children.

What can viewers expect from the forthcoming visual?

They can expect the powerful message of the song carried throughout the video. It’s exactly what I had envisioned. I can’t wait for others to see the video.

Do you have any innovative promo ideas in mind for this release to fit in with ongoing restrictions?

Lately, I have been doing live shows on my Instagram @becca_bowen_. Also, I am still singing in Nashville. The surroundings may be more of an intimate setting but I am able to still promote my music and continue to perform on stage.

Looking ahead, what else can we expect from you this year?

I am in the studio now working on my next two singles. These are very special songs to me. They tell a story of love and heartbreak. What I love about singing is that I’m able to connect with my audience through my music. I am also starring in a show for the Outdoor Channel called For Love Or Likes that will air in April.
