ALBUM REVIEW: Cassadee Pope’s ‘Rise And Shine’

Making and releasing an album during a global pandemic was always going to be a huge challenge but with her latest record Cassadee Pope has managed to create an authentic, honest body of work despite the hurdles she has had to overcome due to the current restrictions in place; sanitizing mics, writing remotely, promoting via social media are just a few of the things the singer/songwriter has been faced with while recording and sharing this LP.

But despite the unprecedented circumstances, Pope has created a beautiful project that has a stellar eight-track tracklist that gives us a glimpse into what she has gone through in recent years as she lays her truth bare while the pared-back production featured throughout allows for the lyrical stories to take centre stage whilst shining a light on her vocal prowess.

A major standout on the LP is the toe-tapping ‘Hoodie’ which is a pop-infused offering that is reminiscent of Kelsea Ballerini as Cassadee delivers a gorgeous vocal overlay that is combined with a toe-tapping production that never gets away from the song allowing it the space to breathe.

The sweet soaring ballad ‘California Dreaming’ which features singer/songwriter Sam Palladio whom Pope is dating is another standout and with their connection, they deliver a heartfelt offering that drives the record into softer territory and elevates the project to heady heights while ‘Hangover’ is another incredible inclusion that allows for Cassadee to truly let her vocal shine.

Overall, ‘Rise and Shine’ is a hugely impressive body of work that cements Pope’s status as one of the leading voices within the country music market and gives listeners a fresh new sound that allows for the performer to deliver a record that is her most authentic collection of songs yet.
