EP REVIEW: Ward Thomas’ ‘The Space Between’

British country crossover duo Ward Thomas return with their stunning new EP ‘The Space Between’. The four-track project includes the poignant ‘Painted Legacy’, emotive ‘Hold Space’, heartfelt ‘Someone To Someone’, and a gorgeous cover of ‘Landslide’.

The twin sisters also manage to convey thoughtful messages through their lyrical approach and this EP is no different. The opening track ‘Hold Space’ is all about how you can promise to just be there and hold a space for somebody who is going through a tough time. It’s not always about fixing their problems but just being a sounding board is often enough.

The second track ‘Someone To Someone’ is probably the deepest offering you’re going to hear from Ward Thomas Featuring guest vocals from Dan Owen it tells the heartbreaking story of a person taking their own life following online bullying. Poignant and heartfelt this one hits hard.

For the third song, the Hampshire sisters deliver their outstanding cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Landslide’ and it is truly stunning. Their vocal harmony works so well on this track steeped in classic country stylistics. Their voices blend beautifully and their rendition is one of the best you’re ever going to hear.

The EP closes out with the emotive ‘Painted Legacy’ which tells the real-life story of their uncle’s passing. Their cousin’s dad slipped away last summer and this track tells the story of the legacy he has left behind for his daughters and grandchildren to cherish.

Overall ‘The Space Between’ EP is a stunning sonic landscape of luscious harmonies, emotional and thought-provoking lyrics, and glorious productions. Perfectly bridging the gap between their third album ‘Restless Minds’ and their forthcoming fourth LP this EP will delight fans as they await a new full-length project.
