EXCLUSIVE: Amy Jack Talks New Single ‘Big Boy Up’

Country music talent Amy Jack recently wowed with the release of her brilliant new single ‘Big Boy Up’ which has been garnering huge interest from industry insider and fans alike whilst her hit single ‘Vegas Style’ was recently played by Fox Sports at the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoor Races.

Here we chat exclusively with Amy Jack to discuss her latest single further:

Congratulations on the success of your song, ‘Vegas Style’. How did you feel about it being supported at the NASCAR races?

I was surprised! I had just sent it that day to Fox, not knowing that the NASCAR playoffs were that weekend, in two days. So I had to do a quick turnaround for clearance. I didn’t know the playoffs were at Las Vegas Speedway, so I got lucky! It seemed to be fun music with the back and forth of the trucks racing. One would come ahead and tie in perfectly with the playfulness of the song. It was pretty entertaining. Especially in the video.

How did you find out that the song had been chosen?

They had to get clearance from us as permission to use it from the publishers. So, I was talking to my co-publisher and writer, Dennis Morgan, in Nashville. When songwriters and musicians’ work is released, some people may think it’s just played, but it’s intellectual property.

Building on that success, your new single “Big Boy Up” is out now. How excited are you about sharing this track?

The response has been incredible. Hearing others say, “Amazing song,” is something I’ll never take for granted. It’s just a fun and funny song, and I’ve had nothing but positive responses. We’ve all gone through times of strain this year, all of our people in this country. So anything I can do to give three minutes of joy, or lifting up, I feel good about.

Can you tell us a little about the writing experience for the track?

I was writing for the Merle Haggard project that Merle initiated, and I had signed a record contract. So I had to write a full album. I’d heard on the radio a few years before that, here in Dallas, Nate Newton, who was a former Dallas Cowboy All-Pro radio personality. He was saying these Dallas Cowboys got to know that this is big boy football. And I think he said, “big boy up”. But I know that my mother had said that when we were little when she was trying to teach my twin brother to walk. I had already climbed up in the car, and she said, “Okay, now, big boy up.”

What do you hope listeners take away from its lyrical story?

I hope listeners can take it as a sign of empowerment and to “step up” in whatever area of life they need encouragement in. “Big Boy Up” can be thought of like the phrases “cowboy up” or “man up” – but not just meant for pro football players or men only. It’s for females, employees, men, and women in the military, anybody.

Have you been continuing to write and record in quarantine?

Yes, and it’s a Godsend. Writing music gives you hope and a challenge and something to strive for. I just drove to Nashville a few weeks ago to record a new song I’m really excited about. I can’t wait to get it in front of the world.

Do you have any set goals in mind for this release?

It would be an honor to have “Big Boy Up” in TV or film and I’m looking forward to the day I can perform it live again.

What else can we expect from you this year?

I’ve been busy writing new songs that we’re working on recording soon, and I’m really proud of all of them. They’re about the human spirit and unity versus division, and I just think they’re perfect with everything going on in the world right now. Stay tuned for more music very soon!
