EXCLUSIVE: Caitlin Quisenberry Talks New Single ‘Love Her Out Of My Head’
Country singer/songwriter Caitlin Quisenberry has proven herself to be one of the most inspired and naturally gifted artists within the scene and as her star continues to rise she has released yet another standout single with ‘Love Her Out Of My Head’ delivering a haunting and melancholy vibe.
Here we chat exclusively with Caitlin Quisenberry to discuss the song further:
Your new single is out now, can we expect this to round out your songs this year?
My release of “LOVE HER OUT OF MY HEAD” will not be rounding out the year for me, as I have 2 more songs set to release before the end of 2021. I’m on a very aggressive release plan right now – releasing a new song every 3 weeks. On Nov. 19th I’ll be releasing another one I co-wrote titled, “TAKE ONLY WHAT YOU NEED”, then the Christmas song, “O HOLY NIGHT” which will release on Dec. 3rd. This schedule continues on into 2022, so get ready for lots of new music from me!
Can you give us a little information on who you’ve worked with to bring this vision to life?
On this single, “LOVE HER OUT OF MY HEAD”, I worked with Sal Oliveri. He’s an incredible producer who really understands me as an artist and knows how to showcase my voice. I have to pinch myself when I’m singing in his studio because it’s where some of “the greats” have recorded – Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Jimmie Allen, CeCe Winans, Bebe Winans, Danny Gokey, Claude Kelly, Nicole C. Mullen and
Kathie Lee Gifford, which is how I met Sal. He recently celebrated a #1 HIT he produced for Chris Stapleton and PINK! So, you could say, I’m in good hands with Sal. We have recorded several songs together, but this one is the first I’m releasing with him as my producer. In bringing this vision to life, we spent a considerable amount of time discussing the perfect instrumentation to give this song the emotion it deserved. Sal
created all of that but involved me in the process too. Sal arranged and recorded the song, then he also played keys, had Fred Eltringham on drums, Jacob Lowery on bass, Tom Bukovac on guitars, Mills Logan to mix and Ken Love to master. For my vocals – he said my voice reminded him of the clarity and tone of Karen Carpenter’s voice, so he would need to leave a lot of space for it (that was one of the best compliments I’ve ever received!). When I laid down my vocals, it seemed effortless, as the music he created really captured the vibe, the vision, and the perfect balance of raw tenderness and power. I also filmed a music video for this song that will be released at the same time. My vision for it was to keep it simple because the lyrics really tell the story on their own. I wanted the music video to just show glimpses of my visions of the other woman and of my love interest with her. What I’ve created – it still allows space for my viewers own imaginations to run wild.
Where did you look to for lyrical inspiration when penning this one?
Although most of what I’m releasing now, I have written, this one was pitched to me by Sal, my producer. The writers are Kat Higgins and Joel Shewmake. When I heard it, I was immediately taken in by its’ drama. I loved that it was hauntingly beautiful, full of lust, love and betrayal. The lyrics are masterful and twisted, just like the storyline. The lyrics, “love her out of my head”…. you have to think about that for a minute; its
meaning is deeper than what’s initially read. It’s saying you have to love me so much that you take the thoughts of her out of my head. It plays on this concept again in, “did she love me out of your head”. This song is pure genius… I’m honored to have recorded it.
Do you have a particular favourite line from the song?
Oh, that is so hard on this song…. If I have to choose one, I’d go with the breakdown chorus of the song – “get me drunk, lay me down, I wanna find a way to cross this bridge, then burn it to the ground.” It’s musically stark, with just my vocals carrying the mood, and for me, it elicits the most imagery and emotion of the song.
What are you hoping listeners take away from this release?
I want them to feel moved, and for those who have directly experienced indiscretion from a lover, I want them to know they aren’t alone in their feelings of jealously and insecurity. The takeaway from this song is that love isn’t black and white; it’s many shades of grey. Each relationship is unique and we never know how we will react in certain circumstances. It’s a song that is very easily relatable in that even if you haven’t
personally experienced it, we can all imagine how gut-wrenching it would be.
You’ve shared a string of tracks recently, do you have any plans to drop a full-length project at some point?
Originally, I wanted to drop an EP of the music I recorded but was advised by my producers to release them as singles instead, with quick drop times. I am planning on releasing an EP full of stripped-down acoustic versions of music I’ve already released (and one still set to release). That stripped EP will drop on January 21st.
What can we expect from you next year as you move forward onto the next phase of your career?
Next year is going to be big!! I already have releases scheduled through August 2022 (I’m a planner, can you tell?). I start back recording in the studio in a couple of weeks and am scheduled to continue that into Jan. & Feb. Now that I have an arsenal of new music, and a lot of it I have written, I’m really looking forward to playing out at some of the cool venues Nashville has, like Puckettes, The Listening Room and The Bluebird, to name just a few. I will continue songwriting, as that is my biggest passion. As I continue my work with my amazing producers, Sal Oliveri and Ben Simonetti, I am adding another producer in, his name is Cactus Moser, married to Wynonna Judd. He is a very accomplished musician with a long list of accolades, including playing with Wynonna and producing for her. We have written some really cool songs together and he just said he would like to produce them. So that’s super exciting! Backstory – He was one of my dad’s best friends in high school in Aurora, Colorado. Now 40 years later – I get to make music with him.
