EXCLUSIVE: Chance McKinney Talks New Single ‘Built To Last’
Rising country music talent Chance McKinney has recently shared his impressive new single titled ‘Built To Last’ which has quickly risen up the streaming and download charts around the world as new listeners discover his standout lyrical ability, and strong vocal capabilities.
Here we chat with Chance McKinney to find out a little more info about his latest offering:
Congratulations on the release of your new single, how have you found the response so far?
A little overwhelming. I mean, it’s streaming on Spotify and AppleMusic about 3x faster out of the gate than any other song I’ve had. TikTok-ers are making relationship videos with the song. I’m getting emails from family members I haven’t heard from in a while. It’s just kinda cool. I love it when music brings people together.
Who have you worked with to bring this vision to life?
It’s a song Joe Jordan, myself, and Kevin Ray Lawson wrote a little over a year ago. Joe brought the idea to the table and it was just a matter of pulling from each of our histories to lay down the rest of the song.
What was the overall inspiration behind the lyrical story of the track?
I don’t know what got Joe started, but as soon as I heard it I immediately thought about my grandparents, my folks, and my wife. BUILT TO LAST isn’t something that happens overnight. It’s just like the song says… “made it through the rain and the rust, ain’t nobody got nothin’ on us.” It’s the reality that relationships aren’t always pretty, but those that weather storms, whatever life throws at you, and still manage to find a little something amazing in the person they’re with daily are truly BUILT TO LAST. It’s definitely earned, not given.
What are you hoping listeners take away from the song and its message?
A little piece of themselves. Not everyone posts everything about their relationship on social media (at least, we hope not). There’s a lot of trials, tears, and amazing parts we just appreciate because we’re in the moment. For me, this song brings back the good and the bad. But, it always makes me feel proud to know we haven’t given up and we’re still fighting the fight. And nowadays, that isn’t always the case.
How are you finding the process of sharing new music during this period of time?
Strange. Usually, there’s the payoff of playing it “live” either before a release or after a release and seeing the effects in real life. Right now, we just release and watch the numbers climb (or not). Until “live” shows kick back up, we won’t know how the music we’ve released during the past year or so has really been received.
Do you have any innovative ideas in mind for the single’s release strategy?
Yeah… we’ve got a really cool thing coming out for BUILT TO LAST right around Valentine’s Day. That should be fun. Guess you’ll just have to stay tuned to our socials to see what’s up.
Can we expect for the single to be followed up by a music video soon?
Yup. But it ain’t gonna be like anything we’ve done in the past on TAKE IT BACK, BACKYARD or NOTHIN’ BETTER TO DO.
Looking ahead, what else can we expect from you this year?
More music. “Live” shows. New videos. More writing. New parts of the world. Some sort of “normalcy” would be nice.
