EXCLUSIVE: Emily Clair Talks New Single ‘Drive Me Home’
On-the-rise Canadian talent Emily Clair has quickly become one of country music’s most exciting artists and as her star continues to rise at a rapid rate she has wowed listeners and critics across the globe with her latest offering titled ‘Drive Me Home’ which is currently playlisted on the radio in Canada.
Here we speak exclusively with Emily Clair to discuss the track in more detail:
Congratulations on the new single, how have you found the response so far?
Thank you! The response is always overwhelming at first. It’s always an incredible feeling to release new music out into the world! We’ve gotten some great support from Apple Music, Spotify independent playlists, and bloggers so far. The single was released digitally first, and it’s now on radio here in Canada, so I’m excited to see what happens with that!
What was the overall writing and recording process like for this one?
The writing process started with just myself on this song. Quickly, I realized it could be even better if I brought it into a write because three minds are always better than one. So I brought “Drive Me Home” to my producer, Shawn Moore, and we took my idea and ended up writing it with Doug Folkins. I knew right away that I needed to record this song because I instantly connected with it!
What are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrical story?
I want listeners to hear a female’s perspective on a woman’s needs. After all, we typically only hear men sing about this topic. I feel that people are becoming more open-minded and realize that it’s completely normal for a woman to sing about her desires.
How does it feel to be sharing new music during this time?
It always feels really great to release new music and be able to share it with people, especially during this difficult time. We need music more than ever now, and I love that artists are still continuing to release and create new music. Though we can’t do interviews or shows in-person to help push our new releases, thank God for digital and social platforms! The music industry has certainly taken a beating with this pandemic, and it’s truly more difficult than ever, but everyone is in the same boat, and we are doing what we can to keep music alive!
The track was just sent to country radio this month, what are you hoping to achieve with the extra promotional push?
When my music goes to radio, I always hope to gain new fans and support with the stations that choose to spin my single. So that’s my main expectation with this one. I feel that radio helps to push an artist’s music by making the listener really listen because chances are, they won’t change their favourite radio station and they will give the song a chance. I feel that if a station truly supports you, it can really help the growth of an artist.
How does it feel to be having the support from radio stations in your home country?
Having support from radio stations in my home country is an absolute dream. If you had asked me three years ago, If I’d think my song would be played on my hometown station, I’d probably laugh. Never did I think that things would happen this quickly for me, but it has and I’m forever grateful to have that continuous support. I’m very excited to continue to build myself up as an artist, and I hope that radio will continue to help me do just that.
What’s your long-term goal for this release?
My long-term goal for this release is to show that female artists can sing anything they want. There are no rules for country music, and I will continue to release honest and powerful music.
Looking ahead, what else can we expect from you?
In the near future, you can expect an EP release. I will be also working toward a full-length record, but that will come later down the line as I gradually work and create up to that point in my career.
