EXCLUSIVE: Emma and Jolie Talk New Single ‘How Do I Choose’ Featuring Josh Kerr
On Friday (March 26th) fast-rising British country-pop duo Emma and Jolie release their stunning new single ‘How Do I Choose‘ which sees them teaming up with Nashville based singer/songwriter Josh Kerr on the heartfelt ballad that is one of the best songs you’re likely to hear this year.
Here we chat exclusively to Emma and Jolie to discover more about the song ahead of its official release this weekend:
Congratulations on your new single ‘How Do I Choose’, how excited are you to be sharing your third official single?
Thank you so much! We are super excited to release this song. We are so thankful that Josh wrote this with us, and sang on the track with us. We have always admired Josh’s songwriting so it’s been incredible to work with him.
How did the collaboration with Josh Kerr come about?
Our manager set up the writing session for us over Zoom in July, we absolutely loved working with him, we’ve been able to write with him a couple of times since then which has been great.
How did you find the process of writing this song via Zoom?
We’ve kind of adapted to it now, obviously, it’s been over a year since we’ve been able to write with someone in person, but now we’ve got used to it, we really enjoy it.
What are you hoping listeners will take away from the poignant lyrical story?
Anyone who is going through a similar situation, or feeling similar feelings, just to let them know they are not alone. It is such a good feeling when you listen to a song and it explains exactly how you are feeling. Sometimes in life, it’s not always a happy ending, and that’s ok, your feelings are valid and hopefully, people will feel that from the song.
Having teamed up with a Nashville-based performer, do you plan on putting some tour dates together for the US when it’s safe?
We really hope that we will be able to tour and perform live in the near future. We have always loved Nashville, and performing at the Song Suffragettes was an amazing experience, so we are really hopeful that we will be able to return to Nashville soon and do some more live music out there. We have also had an incredible experience writing with Nashville-based writers, they are all so talented, and we’re hoping when we can eventually go back out there, we will be able to do that too.
And talking about touring, can your growing UK fanbase expect to see you on stage when restrictions are lifted?
We do have a couple of things in the pipeline for performing in the UK. We are really hopeful that this will go ahead as we have never performed any of our singles live since we’ve released them, so it will be an amazing experience when we can finally do that.
Now you have a few singles under your belt do you plan on putting together an LP for release soon?
It’s definitely something we’ve been thinking about, it’s just about taking the time to make it exactly how we want it.
With ‘How Do I Choose’ it feels like you’ve really come into your own as performers, can we expect more heartstring-pulling songs from you in the future?
Definitely! Everything we write about is always very personal to us, everything we share is kind of like a little story of our lives and the experiences we have gone through. We have had our fair share of heartbreak and it always makes for a good emotional song!
Your voices really suit this ballad style so do you have plans to further explore this acoustic, chilled vibe for forthcoming records?
Yes definitely, we love creating this kind of music. But we are also very diverse, and we like creating different sounds and like to experiment. The single we are planning next is definitely a different vibe but we are hoping everyone will like it just as much.
Do you have any set goals in mind for this collaboration?
We are hoping that it will help us be a bit more successful in Nashville, as Josh is so successful out there. It would be amazing to grow a bigger fanbase out there.
