EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Jade Helliwell Talks New EP ‘Woman’
Following a four-year hiatus from releasing an extended body of work, British country music singer/songwriter Jade Helliwell returned this past Friday (October 7th) with her long-awaited and hotly anticipated EP titled ‘Woman’ which is her first extended record since 2018’s ‘Infatuation’.
Here we chat exclusively with Jade Helliwell to discuss the EP further:
Congratulations on the new EP, how excited are you to be sharing this project?
I am very excited. I’ve been working on these songs and this project for over a year so to have It out for the world is a great feeling.
How have you found the overall experience for this EP?
Overall fab, I’ve worked with some incredibly talented people and had the best support from fans along the way.
Who have you worked with to bring this record to life?
I co-wrote with Laura Oakes on Woman I Am. I co-wrote with Jess Thristan on Nothing But The Radio On. I was lucky enough to be given Drink This Wine to record by amazing writers Jon Stone, Chris Gelbuda & Wade Kirby. Vocal arrangement and production by Rameera Abraham. Backing vocals by Laura Oakes. Produced by Matt Geroux. Mastered by Dan Shike. Photography by Tomography. Graphic Design by Jess Thristan.
Is there one song in particular that you’re most excited for fans to hear?
I’m excited about them all for different reasons. Nothing But The Radio On I’ve been playing for a while live but the production is completely different to that arrangement so I’m excited to see what people think of that. Drink This Wine is a beautiful song I feel lucky enough to have been able to record and the only ballad on the EP so I’m excited to hear how people take to that. Undercover has never been heard before so it’s been fun to see how people have reacted to a new song completely.
This is your first body of work in 4 years, how does it feel to have this out now?
It feels like the right time. I’ve developed my songwriting and performing a lot in that time. I’ve grown and I’m a different person from who I was when I released Infatuation. I hope that shows through the music.
Looking ahead, what else does 2022 have in store for you?
I’m just about to head out on my headline Woman I Am Tour so I’m very excited for that. I’ve also just made the final five for Female Vocalist, Entertainer of The Year and Best UK Song for Smoke in this year’s British CMA Awards so I am looking forward to attending the awards and celebrating country music.
