EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Eleri Angharad Talks Upcoming Single ‘Snake Like You’
On Friday, October 14th, on-the-rise Welsh country crossover artist Eleri Angharad will release her hotly anticipated new single titled ‘Snake Like You’, the forthcoming track will also feature multi-genre performer Millie Blooms making for an exciting female empowerment collaboration.
Here we speak exclusively with Eleri Angharad to discuss the track further:
Your new single releases on October 14, how much are you looking forward to sharing this song?
I’m so excited to release this track, it’s my first-ever duet which is really fun and it really embodies the sound of my second album, which I’ve been working on this year so I’m looking forward to starting this new era.
Who have you worked with this time around to bring this track to life?
This time I’ve worked with some new writers and producers: Millie Blooms, who is also the featured artist, and her husband Dan Fry. I went over for a writing session at the end of 2021 and absolutely loved the work they do. They showed me tracks they had produced for new pop/country artist Paige Wolfe and I was so excited by what I heard I asked them to produce my whole album. I’ve loved the process so far and can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on together.
What can listeners expect from the lyrical story?
Snake Like You is about the slimy salesmen you encounter in every walk of life, the chancers who try and charm you with a bottle of snake oil. I get constantly bombarded with messages from fake companies promising success. Whether it be millions of streams, followers, publishing contracts, or gig offers that when you delve deeper are either bot-generated or just rip you off. It can be an absolute minefield trying to decipher who’s genuine and who’s not and it’s very frustrating. I think nowadays with Social Media, it’s so easy for people to fall for scams like this, even outside of the music industry, it happens far too often. It’s time to BITE BACK!
This feels like the start of a fresh new chapter for you musically, would you say that’s a fair assessment of where you are right now?
Absolutely! I’ve really listened to a lot of new music over the last couple of years, worked with lots of new writers and taken a step back to work out exactly how I want to sound as an artist. For this track and the album going forward, I’ve embraced a rockier side that I’m really enjoying. I absolutely love Miranda Lambert and UK artists like Kezia Gill, Laura Evans and Emma Moore I’d say I’ve definitely incorporated some of that bold attitude into my own songwriting. My new producers Millie and Dan also used to be in a rock band called ‘Digital Criminals’ so the evolution in my sound has happened really naturally.
Can we expect this offering to be included on a forthcoming EP/LP or will it be a standalone release?
This track will be the first single from my second album, which is set for release sometime next year. You can expect a few more singles before that though.
You’ve also recently been on a writing retreat, how was that experience?
It was such an amazing experience; intense and humbling to be able to write with such successful songwriters. It also gave me so much confidence to feel like I was able to hold my own in these professional writing sessions. I also met a ton of amazing writers from across the world and made some great connections, so along with the absolutely gorgeous Spanish village it was held in, the whole thing was truly magical.
Apart from this new single, what else does 2022 hold for you?
I’m currently in the middle of my Autumn tour with dates across Wales, and a few in England. I’ll be joining Laura Evans and Gareth Lewis at Acapela Studio, Cardiff on October 27th, playing Swansea Fringe Festival 3rd-6th November and also supporting Kezia Gill and Jill Andrews at their Weston-Super-Mare date on November 19th. I might also have another track up my sleeve for you before the year is out!
