EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Maya Lane Talks New Single ‘Heart For A Heart’

On-the-rise singer/songwriter Maya Lane has today (Thursday, April 18th) released her brilliant new single ‘Heart For A Heart’. Here we chat exclusively with Maya to discuss the track:

Congratulations on the new single, how does it feel to have this one out in the world?

I’ve been counting down the days to release ‘Heart For A Heart’! The song has been tucked away in my back pocket for a couple of years and is one I love playing live, so it’s the best feeling to have it come out!

What are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrics and its story?

The idea for ‘Heart For A Heart’ came to me while watching a film, in which the main character sets out to seek revenge on those who have wronged her. The writing process felt so refreshing for this song as I was able to dive into a whole other world, and create this dramatic, detailed story and run with it. While the storyline of the song is fictional, the message resonates so deeply with emotions that can arise after feeling betrayed, whether that be in a relationship or a friendship. For me I never want to tell people how they should interpret the song, if it connects to them in another way that means something to them, then I’ve done my job 🙂

Do you have any set goals in mind for this release?

I try not to put too much pressure on each release, as it can end up taking away from the joy of putting the song out, but there are always goals and milestones I hope to achieve. My main goal with every release is that it reaches an audience who can connect, relate and love the song, it’s so special to hear how music touches people.

What’s been your favourite moment from the creative process of this release?

Ooooo, that’s such a hard question, as there are so many things I love about creating a project. Something that’s been cool about the making of this release is seeing how the song has changed and shaped (melody and production) over the course of the last year or so. As I’ve played it live, I’ve been able to gain a better idea of what works, what doesn’t, what the audience and listeners react most to, and being able to incorporate that into the recording has been really interesting.

Can we expect a full-length project soon?

Yes! I have a full-length project coming out very soon. It’s been in the works for a while, but I’ve loved creating the concept and tying all the songs together.

Do you have any touring plans lined up?

I’m currently doing a ‘Living Room Tour’ with my friend and fellow artist Edie Bens. We are travelling around the UK, performing acoustic shows to fans, who are hosting us from their living rooms, gardens, local cafes and record stores. It’s so lovely to be able to showcase new and old music and to be able to connect with fans this way. I’ve been playing shows for years, but touring was something I first experienced last year supporting Far From Saints on their UK tour. I loved every second and hopefully, there will be more support tours to come!

What else can fans expect from you in 2024?

So many exciting things!! As I mentioned earlier I have a longer project coming out pretty soon and lots of shows planned! So keep an eye on my social media (all @mayalaneuk) for all the updates 🙂
