EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Thomas Kavanagh Talks New Single ‘Changing’
On-the-rise British country music artist Thomas Kavanagh has enjoyed recent success with a string of breakout singles and he is now currently gearing up for the release of his forthcoming offering titled ‘Changing’ which will be available to stream and download from Friday, April 22nd.
Here we chat exclusively with Thomas to discuss the track in more detail:
How exciting does it feel to be so close to releasing another single?
It’s really exciting, I think I’m growing as a writer with each release. I’m proud of where this song has gone and sounds I just hope my fans like it and I will get new listeners going forward.
Can you give us a little insight into the writing and recording process for this one?
The writing process for this one was that it was from a voice memo from my phone, which I wrote in my kitchen at the time. Humming the melody of the chorus, with the chord section. For a while, I didn’t really know where to take it. I then started production in my home studio for it. Working on the music first, this time. Jotting down lyrics for the chorus idea. Then I noticed that the song was about relationships and how we’ve all kind of been there. Then I had my friend Annabel Lyle help with the lyrics too for this one.
You’re well known for writing and producing your musical output, is that the case once again with this track?
Yes, I studied production a little more on this record. Trying to figure out the elements of country whilst maintaining my vocal tone and rocky edge. I was listening to a lot of Rascal Flatts and King Calaway for mixing and production references.
What are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrical story?
I’m hoping that people will know that we’ve all been in this situation whether it’s a romantic relationship or a friendship.
Do you have any set goals in mind for this offering?
I’d like to reach 10k streams. I don’t know how I will get there being an independent artist BUT we can always dream right?!
You’re currently out in Nashville, how are you finding that experience?
Yeah, Nashville is cool, there’s not a single place where you will not hear music. A very lively city, with great food and great people! It’s been a very pleasant experience.
Have you been to any writing sessions whilst over there?
I haven’t been to any writing sessions this time around, I’ve been to writer’s rounds though which was great, all the talent here is so good. It’s great to hear so many good songs.
Looking ahead, what else does 2022 hold in store for you?
So I’ll be going back into the studio to finish my record, looking to have this released this year with the addition of songs, I released last year to have a nice collection of songs for fans to have as a whole. Then looking at maybe getting on a tour at some point. I’m excited to see what the future holds! Thanks for taking the time to interview me today, I appreciate it a lot.
