EXCLUSIVE: Jade Helliwell Talks New Single ‘If I Were You’
On Friday, April 2nd, British country crossover performer Jade Helliwell returns with her latest offering ‘If I Were You’ which signals the beginning of an exciting new musical chapter for one of the UK’s most exciting and talented emerging artists on the scene at this moment.
Here we chat exclusively with Jade Helliwell to discuss the track further:
Your new single drops on April 2nd, how excited are you to be sharing new music?
I am so excited to be releasing new music. It’s my first release of 2021 and I absolutely love the song so I’m looking forward to seeing what people think about it.
How are you finding the process of creating and sharing new songs during this time?
I’ve found it great to be able to write. I’ve been able to write virtually with writers around the world which is something I wouldn’t have necessarily done before COVID. It’s also been great to spend time developing my writing skills. The recording process has been different as I’m used to heading to the studio for a few days but as with all things this past year, I’ve learned to adapt.
Who have you worked with to bring this vision to life?
I recorded the vocals for this song at home and sent it to my producer Rob Gulston at The Banger Hanger who put the rest together. Luke Thomas recorded the guitar parts and we had Eddy Dunlap in Nashville add Pedal Steel.
Where did you look to for inspiration when crafting the lyrical story?
This is the first release of mine that I haven’t written myself. It was written by Laura Oakes (who I’ve been a huge fan of for years) Livy Jeanne & Joe Fox. Laura said she thought of me when listening to the work tape and as soon as I heard it I loved it and just knew I had to record it. It’s a story about how we don’t view ourselves through the same eyes as other people and a song of just wishing someone would take a chance and make a move.
Do you have any plans to share an official music video for this track?
Not right now but maybe something will be out soon. Watch this space!
What are you hoping fans take away from the song’s story?
To seize the day. Take a chance and make a move as you never know the way others see you.
What’s your favorite memory from creating this song?
Probably getting the mix back and playing it full blast and just being so excited to get it out there.
Looking ahead, what else can we expect from you this year?
I’m looking forward to getting back to playing live. I will be performing at Liverpool Country Music Festival, The Long Road, and more. I am also embarking on a co-headline tour with Kezia Gill in November which I can’t wait for. Tickets for that are available at jadehelliwell.com/tour
