LIVE REVIEW: Twinnie @ Pizza Express Holborn
Last night (Wednesday, March 30th) Twinnie brought her eclectic pop-country sound to the intimate Pizza Express Live venue in London, Holborn for the latest Nashville Meets London event and it was a night to remember for the hitmaker who delivered a show-stopping showcase.
The evening began with a stripped back acoustic set from fast-rising Brit country-Americana performer Robbie Cavanagh who had the audience spellbound with his smooth vocal that delivered luscious melodies and heartfelt lyrics – offering a great taste of what’s to come from his forthcoming debut album.
And then as the night progressed, it was time for the main event with Twinnie arriving on stage to rapturous applause at 9 pm for a barnstorming 1-hour set that saw her rattle through some of her biggest hits to date including the likes of ‘Type Of Girl’, ‘Better When I’m Drunk’ and newest releases ‘One Heart’ and ‘Welcome to the Club’.
The York native also took the time to premiere some brand new songs with the highlights especially being the heartfelt ballad ‘Write You Out’, and funky ‘Piece Of Work’ with both shining a light on the nuances of her intricate artistry that incorporates multiple sonic styles and influences.
Another major standout moment from last night was the impromptu Eminem rap from Twinnie that had the audience cheering on the singer/songwriter after she was egged on by her bandmates to rap as part of an in-joke – it went down fantastically well with her slipping the extra verse into ‘Welcome to the Club’.
Bold and energetic, Twinnie shone last night with intimate country sit-down moments sandwiched between all-out pop performances including moments where she went into the crowd for sing and dance-a-longs much to the crowds’ delight. All-in-all, the London based artist proved why she is often dubbed the UK’s answer to Shania Twain – this was a concert that was very much reminiscent of that 90s country-pop vibe.
