The Fans: What Twinnie’s ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ Album Means To Us In 2020
Back on April 17th of this year, one month into the UK enforced lockdown, fast-rising country-pop performer Twinnie released her long-awaited and eagerly anticipated debut album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’. The record, filled with huge anthems, and soaring ballads wowed listeners and went on to be the soundtrack to the following months of quarantine.
And with many nations across the UK, and worldwide now going back into full lockdowns due to the ongoing pandemic, the record and its recently shared acoustic version is once again helping fans get through these challenging times. Here fans from around the world tell us what the phenomenal album has meant to them during 2020.
Melissa Boyes
“I think ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ has a really refreshing sound. Twinnie tells a story in all of her songs and I think that’s the hardest kind of songwriting, yet the best way for connecting with people. I can relate to each of her songs in one way or another. 2020 has been a tough year and Twinnie’s hard work, continuing to update her supporters, and releasing new music has helped keep us all going”.

“When first hearing the album, I was taken aback by how alive it feels, a real mood pleaser after such a long year. I have got to confess I hadn’t realized Twinnie was an ex soap actress but this album shows she has a natural flair for singing. Especially having wowed the West End starring in Chicago like a seasoned performer, a true natural”.
Thomas Kavanagh
“Twinnie’s album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ is awesome. I really enjoy how she’s really poured her heart out into this album talking of things she feels and what she’s been through. Although it is a song from her point of view, there are things on the album that I can really relate to. Plus it makes me feel like I’m not alone. I like the rollercoaster journey it takes you on, from the elements of the dark side of love then uplifting with the happy side. As much as it’s a country album, I really feel she’s mixed in elements of pop/rock too. It’s a fantastic debut from her and I look forward to hearing more material soon”.

“Twinnie is a top artist, an arena artist. ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ is the album that has promoted her into the big leagues with the very best that Nashville has to offer”.

“We [my husband and I] first heard of Twinnie when we stumbled into a bar near the Berlin Wall in March of this year during the C2C music festival. We’re Croatian and were in Berlin as tourists for a few days. We were never country music fans but we needed food and drinks and thought “what the hell”, let’s have a meal and enjoy the atmosphere. After Twinnie’s performance, we were blown away. This was a superstar, the full package, supermodel looks, and an out of this world voice. When we returned back to Croatia we ordered ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ online and then lockdown struck. It took weeks to arrive but when a signed copy finally arrived we put it in our CD player and it hasn’t come out yet. We were lucky to have had a great summer, visiting many beautiful places in Northern Croatia and Twinnie was with us all the way. Our four-year-old son Maks knows all the songs and insists on holding the CD case while the album is playing. He adores her. It’s just one of those albums that is played over and over. Even though we’ll all be happy to see the end of 2020, ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ and Twinnie have made this year a bit more bearable for my family. Thank you Twinnie from some new random Croatian fans”.

“‘Hollywood Gypsy’ arrived right at the start of the pandemic lockdown restrictions in the UK and this album full of dance-around-the-room songs kept me happy all summer. Twinnie’s talent can’t be argued with – her vocal power, range, and tone are all impressive and give her an original sound, and her songwriting really brings out both her skill and her character. There are a few soulful, serious songs in there too, but largely it’s an album full of bops and I absolutely love it. Twinnie is just a queen and you can’t convince me otherwise”.
Stephanie Yeomans
“I dance in the kitchen with ‘More’ playing as loudly as I can and for a few minutes, I’m happy and at peace. ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ has given me a sense of escape, and happiness in a year where bad news and negativity are everywhere”.
Nathan Royle
“Twinnie’s ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ album has meant a lot to me in 2020. The fact that it was released during such difficult times means it’ll be unique in my album collection. It gave me a sense of hope when I was missing live music so much. The songs are incredible and all feel deeply personal. In fact, I’m guessing a lot of people will have that feeling that the album was made just for them. The only problem is deciding on a favorite track”.
Alan O’Kelly
“Twinnie had made a stunning series of live appearances at gigs and festivals but the question was, could she convert all that energy and dynamism to an album? The answer came with ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ one of the best albums of the year. She was my favorite live and now I have her music at home with me. A superb artist in every way”.
Samantha Melrose
“Twinnie’s album has been such a sign of hope and fun. She never fails to create a banger and this album is full of them. Music holds so much power, it can change your mood in a second, and ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ just amplifies how we all feel, and although it would have great to see this live this year, it’s been great to help get us all through lockdown”.

“‘Hollywood Gypsy’ is a labor of love for Twinnie and one that I’m glad to have seen finally come to light. Having heard the songs from the album at gigs such as ‘Social Babies’ and ‘Superhero’ it’s so wonderful to hear a full album of Twinnie’s songs. To me, it’s an incredible achievement in these pandemic times for any artist to release new music let alone an album as awesomesaurous as this. The acoustic version of these songs are as close to hearing them being played at a concert, I’ll be ready and waiting to see them performed bt Twinnie once this is all over. It’ll be beautiful”.
Markus Salletmeir
“I am very grateful that Twinnie released the album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ during the pandemic. It will help me through the tough lockdown to come. Thanks Twinnie”.
Richard Murray Reid
“I came to the table a bit late in discovering Twinnie that coincided with the start of the first lockdown. Twinnie’s name kept appearing in the music industry press so I was curious. Well, what a talent, I am a huge admirer of Twinnie’s music, her incredible voice, her writing, and production skills. ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ is in my humble but professional opinion, one of the best debut albums of recent times. The acoustic version is [also] superb. Twinnie has an addictive personality, and a cracking sense of humor too”.

“In a year that’s been full of new music, considering national and worldwide lockdown, Twinnie has cemented herself as a fan favorite here in the UK. With the release of ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ and subsequently the release of her acoustic album, Twinnie exposes the inner workings of her emotions. From talking about her York roots to her heartbreakingly powerful track ‘Lie To Me’, she takes us through a rollercoaster of our own feelings as she guides us through the album from start to finish. Being a true lyrical genius, Twinnie has the ability to transport us into our own minds and makes us realize the true value of love and the over use of technology as described in ‘Social Babies’, to the self-empowering ‘Type Of Girl’. Twinnie really has taken the country scene by storm and you would be hard-pressed not to find her on everybody’s playlists. Twinnie makes us proud to say we are from York”.
Andrew Bettridge
“I first came across Twinnie when I went to the British Country Music Festival in Blackpool last year. From there I took a real interest in her music and gradually listened to more and more and now I’ve got her ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ album blaring out most days in my car. It has definitely been one of my most played since the first lockdown in March. I just love the variety of the songs and how they are so cleverly written – especially ‘Social Babies’, and ‘Hollywood Gypsy’. She’s the reason country music is the best genre of music and it’s also great to have someone flying the flag from the UK in country music. I’d also really love to see her duet with Jordan Davis in the future, who is my favorite male artist”.
Michael Faulkner
“This year has been awful for so many reasons. Not only did I have to cope with the pandemic but my little girl was stripped away from me due to false allegations by her mother. We spent our limited time during that period playing games or visiting the park whilst listening to Twinnie’s album, with Gracie having real favorite tracks. Our situation is now better than ever after the court ruled in our favor and we still love listening to the album as it brings back so many happy memories. My fiance and I saw Twinnie when she supported Kiefer Sutherland a while back and I thought she was awesome. We met her in the crowd at a later gig and she was lovely to speak to. I hope my little girl gets to meet her one day as her songs have been a big positive part of a difficult year”.

“I had never heard of the wonderfully talented Twinnie until October 2019 when I attended the Kiefer Sutherland gig in Hull. I’m always intrigued to find out who the support acts are and what music they have to offer. Well, what a discovery she was. She took to that stage like she was born to do it, full of energy and wit and of course those beautiful vocals filled the room as she played from the heart. At first, I was convinced she was from Nashville but no she is indeed a local York lass. After the gig we managed to meet her and just like on stage she was a Country sweetheart and she signed my son’s [‘Better When I’m Drunk’ EP] CD and had a photo with him. The CD was immediately placed in the player on the journey home and [the single] ‘Social Babies’ was an instant sing-a-long classic and so true to the times we are living in right now. Six months later and ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ finally landed in April 2020 unfortunately the gig in March at York had been canceled due to COVID but at least we had the album and what a stonker it was. Tracks like ‘Lie To Me’ pull on your heartstrings while you can’t help but dance to ‘Type Of Girl’. ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ for me encapsulates the whole genre that is country music. I have to say being a fan of US country music, old and new, Twinnie captures the soul wearing her heart on her sleeve and singing like she was born in Nashville, Her videos are fun, moving, and straight from the heart. What I love about her most is her honesty and passion”.

“Myself, my sister Vicky, and her best friend Nicola have followed Twinnie for a while now, the last time we saw her was at her gig with Kiefer Sutherland. In November my sister was told she had an autoimmune disease called PBC. In March we had tickets booked for two of Twinnie’s headline tour dates. Unfortunately, Vicky was rushed to the hospital due to having internal bleeding due to her condition. All Vicky was concerned about was missing the shows. So I sent a message to Twinnie explaining we were sorry we couldn’t make the shows. She replied back and asked to come and surprise Vicky. However, we had to cancel as Vicky was rushed to ICU. I went to see her on Friday where I held her hand and played ‘Type Of Girl’. She passed away on the saturday, two days before lockdown at only 42. Twinnie actually sent a recorded message with a verse from the song for us to play at Vicky’s goodbye. I’d pre-ordered Vicky, Nicola, and myself her CD, it was a bittersweet moment when it arrived as Vicky had been waiting a long time for her debut album. I still have it unopened. The album means so much to me and I’ll always be grateful to her”.

“I rediscovered Twinnie’s music during lockdown and It’s giving me the boost we all need and songs we can relate to in this troubling time. She has songs for us all to enjoy and I can’t thank her enough for producing the best ones”.
Paul Wootton
“Twinnie’s ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ album has been inspiring and uplifting during the pandemic in the UK. Twinnie is such a great UK country artist who goes from strength to strength with her music”.
It’s clear that Twinnie and her music have helped many people through this year and as restrictions continue to implement everyday life her album and future releases will no doubt help fans cope once again. She is a special talent and one that connects on an incredibly deep level with her listeners.
