Twinnie: Breaking Barriers and Creating Her Own Lane in Country Music
Up until the 90s country music was very much a one-track sonic sound then along came Shania Twain who tore up the rule book and created a whole new style with her fresh pop crossover sound and sassy female empowerment lyrics which in turn created an entirely new lane for female country artists across the world.
And now fast forward to 2020 and we have a homegrown British talent breaking barriers across the country scene and creating her own lane within the boundaries of the genre as she emerges as the freshest talent to be creating pop-tinged offerings within the UK’s growing market.
Her debut album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’, like Shania Twain’s sophomore “rule-breaking” ‘The Woman In Me’ ripped up what many believe the country sound to be like and instead broke out of the box and incorporated a whole host of other genres whilst always staying true to the storytelling aspect of what country music is famous for.
The York, singer like the trailblazing Twain is never afraid to put her own stamp on her music and never lets the genre define the sound of her music instead she uses it as a base to build on which in turn allows her to create a truly unique sonic stylistic that is steeped in classic country, and stellar British pop, and indie-rock.
The result of that daring freedom is a wonderfully exciting barrier-breaking soundscape that allows Twinnie to truly stand out as the leading female solo vocalist to be emerging from the UK’s eclectic country music scene. She is unafraid to take risks, and always knows when it’s right to crossover into other genre sounds within her musical offerings.
In the 90s it was Canadian legend Shania Twain leading the way for female artists to be more creative and to take risks, and now in the 20s, it is English singer/songwriter Twinnie who is leading the way for a new wave of country acts to have the urge to seek new styles and sounds that dabble in other realms and break out of the genre definition.
Twinnie truly is a creative powerhouse and her eclectic sound, empowering lyrics, and stellar vocal sets her apart from the current crop of rising talent, and as she continues on the path to global stardom her adventurous music releases only further enhance her growing reputation as Britain’s leading country crossover soloist.
