Virtual Live Review: Twinnie @ The Royal Albert Hall – NML
As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic continues to halt live shows event organisers across the world are looking for new and innovative ways to bring live gigs to fans safely in a virtual setting and one of those festivals taking their showcase online is Nashville Meets London who have teamed up with The Royal Albert Hall for a special live-stream as part of the #RoyalAlbertHome series.
The online gig hosted by Matt Spracklen was streamed across YouTube on Saturday, July 18th, and saw York singer/songwriter Twinnie joining The Cadillac Three, Michael Ray, and Tenille Townes for a fabulous evening of live music with fans being able to tune-in from the comfort and safety of their own homes.
Bringing her unique sonic blend of country, pop, and soft rock to the “stage”, Twinnie delivered an effortless set that included a selection of her biggest hits all of which showcased her immense vocal ability to perfection as she sang live from her home with the video footage being edited by photographer and videographer Naomi Kane,
Kicking off with the title track off her stellar debut album ‘Hollywood Gypsy’ The English artist shone a light on her soaring vocal prowess thanks to the stripped back acoustic setting of the live-stream. Joined by a string of session musicians such as Thommy, Joel, and Barnabas the performance was elevated even further allowing for the autobiographical track to truly come to life.
Up next was a gorgeous version of ‘Feeling Of Falling’, very rarely performed live this is one of the major standouts on the LP’s incredible tracklist and hearing Twinnie belt it out with an outstanding live vocal allowed for it to sound even more impressive and gave a real taster of what’s to come from her forthcoming UK tour which is currently slated for November.
‘Daddy Issues’ came next, this is the most authentic old-school country sounding song on the album and is always a huge highlight and during the Nashville Meets London performance it was stripped back to its core allowing for the lyrical story to come to life.
Twinnie then slowed things down with the emotive ballad ‘Lie To Me’, as always this was an emotional offering from the York singer/songwriter whose voice always shines a little brighter on these soaring acoustic ballads that offer an emotional punch like no other. That high note is also always a tremendous addition and showcases the breathtaking vocal control she effortlessly possesses.
Taking the tempo up again the penultimate track of her live-set was the current radio single ‘I Love You Now Change’ which is quickly garnering major attention from industry and radio insiders across the globe. This acoustic version was nothing short of phenomenal.
Closing out the live-stream, Twinnie belted out her huge breakout hit ‘Better When I’m Drunk’ which is a staple of any live show of hers and once again she delivered a note-perfect display with a dash of infectious charm and feel-good pop-infused fun. This is always a huge highlight and this stripped back offering was outstanding.
Overall, Twinnie showcased that she is one of the UK’s brightest stars as she looks to continue to blaze a trail within the country crossover scene and take her music across the globe. She is one of this countries finest vocalists and this Royal Albert Home showcase brought that sentiment home in no uncertain terms.
