VIRTUAL LIVE REVIEW: Ward Thomas @ The Theatre Royal Haymarket

Last night (October 10th) Ward Thomas celebrated the release of their phenomenal new album ‘Invitation’ with a stunning live-stream concert from the gorgeous Theatre Royal Haymarket, London venue with the fully produced show bringing a much-needed dose of live music to fans around the world.

The global virtual event kicked off in style with a brilliant four-track performance from US country star Devin Dawson who sang live from a bar in Nashville where he wowed with a selection of hits including ‘I Got A Truck’, and ‘All On Me’. Always a stellar live performer Dawson gave a rousing vocal that was stunningly accompanied by luscious instruments making it a fantastic way to begin the evening.

It was then time for the main event with Ward Thomas starting their stellar set with a breathtaking acoustic version of their latest hit ‘Sweet Time’ which set the tone for what was to come from the girls perfectly. Their vocals were as gorgeous as ever in the empty space and their harmonies tighter than ever.

Featuring a full band show the duo delivered a truly memorable gig for their fans that was definitely the next best thing to an actual live concert. Using the space the twins utilized the empty venue and performed at various points around the theatre-making for a truly unique experience and one that will stand out for years to come.

Taking listeners back through their incredible catalog of music the concert saw Ward Thomas performing hits off all four albums including songs such as ‘Push For The Stride’, ‘No Filter’, ‘Guilty Flowers’, and ‘Wait Up’ there was also a bitter-sweet moment during ‘I Believe In You’ where usually the audience is split in two for a sing-a-long moment, and ‘Carry You Home’ was gorgeously performed although there was no deafening cheers this time around.

The overall concert was magical as the sisters gave those watching a wonderful, immersive show that allowed them to feel as if they were in the theatre with them and a beautiful moment in the dressing room came as they sang the poignant ‘Safe’ completely acapella showcasing their vocal control and their cover of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ was one of the best versions anyone has ever done. Spinetingling to say the least.

Ward Thomas are without a doubt one of the best live acts in the world at the moment and this virtual event allowed them the platform to showcase exactly what you get from any gig you see them at; soaring vocals, breathtaking harmonies, sweet charm, and a gentle ease from the girls who effortlessly dominate any space they perform.

They Haymarket showcase was exactly what the world needed at this moment in time and as the challenges of 2020 continue to throw obstacles in the way of live music the live-stream felt extra special with Ward Thomas giving watchers one of the very best live experiences of the year. This virtual event was on another level and it felt like a little slice of heaven during this turbulent time.
