EXCLUSIVE: Sarah Darling Talks Post Quarantine Plans, and Creating Whilst at Home

Adopted Brit Sarah Darling last year spent the majority of her time in the UK promoting her ‘Wonderland’ record which topped the Official UK Country Album Chart. During her time in Britain throughout 2019, she performed at festivals across the country and also headlined her own tour visiting cities across the UK delighting her many fans.

2020 was meant to see Sarah returning to our shores for further live shows and festival slots but due to the current lockdown situations which are a result of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, these plans have been put on hold. Instead, the singer/songwriter is quarantined at her Nashville home where she is keeping fans entertained with weekly live streams via Facebook and Instagram and has already confirmed she will be back in the UK next year.

Here we chat exclusively to Sarah Darling to discuss her post quarantine plans and how she has been creating whilst staying safe at home:

It’s recently been announced that you will be playing the Long Road Festival next year, how excited are you to be heading back to the UK?

It’s so lovely to have this to look forward to! I keep imagining what it will feel like to be on stage again. I have this feeling it will be emotional.

Despite becoming an honoury Brit, you have been forced to cancel all upcoming shows in Britain this year, what are you missing most about playing live in the UK?

I miss the connection. I’ve been building my fan base there for years now and it feels like a second home. I can’t wait to have everyone in a room together.

Before the Coronavirus pandemic hit you were due to start recording a new album, when do you expect to start work on that now?

Honestly, I am not sure when I will start recording. There are no plans at the moment. I do have some lovely songs I’m sitting on and fall in love with more each day.

The LP follows on from your fourth studio album ‘Wonderland’ what kind of sonic sound and aesthetic can we expect from this record?

Still dreaming that one up. When I make records it’s all-encompassing, and one thing is for certain it won’t be like what I’ve done before.

What kind of subject matters do you expect to cover on the new project?

You will just have to wait and see! I am still in process.

Have you been continuing to work on the album whilst in quarantine?

The writing part absolutely. As far as recording, there hasn’t been an opportunity yet.

Despite the ongoing lockdown situation, you have been keeping busy with live stream content, can we expect this to continue for the entirety of the Shelter in Place order?

I’m absolutely loving keeping my fans happy through Baking Live and Campfire Live. It’s not like the real connection, but I will continue the things I’ve learned at this time. I’m really grateful I have the technology to connect.

What has been your biggest challenge whilst in quarantine?

I miss performing so much. It’s such a part of who I am, and I’ve had to work on different loves for awhile.

Apart from baking and working on new music, what else have you been doing to keep busy whilst at home?

The art of being home. I love sitting in my back garden drinking coffee and listening to the birds. It’s peaceful right now for me, and very different than my last year of travel.

What is the first thing you’re planning on doing when social distancing measures are lifted?

I am craving the ocean or a good National Park! Another adventure is always on the horizon.
