EXCLUSIVE: Chris Moreno Talks New Single ‘Same Old Places’

American country singer/songwriter Chris Moreno is one of the most talented vocalists you’re likely to ever come across. His soaring voice combined with his stellar songwriting skills makes him a force to be reckoned with. The country scene is rich in talent and Moreno is rising to the top of the ranks thanks to his standout voice and easy charm.

This past Friday (June 5th) he shared his brand new single ‘Same Old Places’ which once again shone a light on just how incredibly talented he is both as a vocalist and as a musician. He is ready to take over the scene this year and if he keeps on sharing music as good as this track then it won’t be long until he is recognised globally as a country music superstar.

Here we speak exclusively to Chris Moreno to discuss the new single further:

Congratulations on your new single release, how excited are you to be sharing new music?

I’m very excited! Hearing a song go from the acoustic guitar and vocal stage to then hear it as a finished track with a full band, to then be able to share it with my fans is a super rewarding experience for me and it’s hard to even put it into words.

Can you talk us through the writing process for this track?

“Same Old Places” was a song that came pretty quickly to me. I had the title/ idea as well as the melody pretty well established and then I brought it to my co-writer Stefanie Joyce to work through it. I wanted to write a song encouraging people to chase their dreams told through the eyes of a girl in a small town who was being discouraged from doing so.

How did you approach the writing session for this release?

I had a chunk of the song written as I mentioned and then I brought it to my friend Stefanie Joyce who’s an amazing co-writer here in Nashville, to see what she thought of it and what we could add to it. As usual, Stef was able to help me fully craft the song’s potential and she helped add some really key lyrics and imagery to the verses to tie it all together. We finished it in a day. It took me a couple of months to figure out the key and exactly how I wanted the melody to go but once I locked that in I knew I had to record it.

What are you hoping listeners take away from the new song?

I love the energy that this song has. I’m always striving to write songs that make you want to roll down the windows and drive. Songs that make you feel good while also challenging you to think. There’s an important message in this song and it’s one that I believe in with all my heart and that is “Don’t let the opinions of others dictate how you live your life!” I don’t care if it’s your family, friends, whatever. Life’s too short to not act if something’s calling you. I think a lot of songs these days glorify being from and staying in a small town, and that’s great I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. But if you’re someone who has that itch to explore and go after certain things in life, then I want to be the one who encourages you to do that because that’s what I eventually did and I’m a happier person for it.

With the new track, can we expect this to be a springboard to an album?

Probably not an album but I’ve been toying with the idea of releasing an EP because I’m realizing there’s a somewhat consistent theme throughout a lot of these songs I’m writing.

How are you finding the process of sharing new music during quarantine?

I’ve found it’s been great to connect with my fans via Facebook and Instagram Lives as well as through the sharing of new music. It’s helped in giving me something to look forward to and I think that they’ve enjoyed hearing new music which makes me happy.

How have you stayed creatively switched on whilst at home?

I’d be lying if I said the inspiration has been coming as easily as usual during this whole thing. It’s been somewhat hard to write on the usual day to day topics that I typically talk about while there’s so much uncertainty going on, but I’m doing my best and have written a little bit. I’m someone who does better writing once I’m a little bit removed from a situation and after I’ve had time to reflect versus when I’m right in the middle of going through it.

How are you finding this current situation is affecting your songwriting?

Like I previously mentioned it’s been a little hard to focus on writing when there’s so much uncertainty but I’ve managed to get a couple of songs finished.

When restrictions are lifted, where will be the first place you play live?

Whoever reaches out first!! I just can’t wait to play, wherever it is.

Can we expect to see you on tour when it’s safe to do so?

Absolutely. I’m ready to go. Put me in coach!
