EXCLUSIVE: Alannah McCready Talks New Single ‘Something Like That’

On Friday, February 26th, fast-rising country-pop performer Alannah McCready releases her eagerly awaited new single titled ‘Something Like That’ which promises to be one of the most impressive crossover offerings of the year and which will surely put McCready on the map as the “next big thing”.

Here we chat exclusively with Alannah McCready to discuss the track further ahead of its release this week:

Your new single will be released on February 26th, how excited are you to be sharing this song?

I am beyond excited to share “Something Like That” with everyone! This will be the first time I have released music in three years and I think I am most proud of this project. This song and eventual EP will probably be the most relatable songs I’ve ever released.

Who have you worked with to craft this track?

“Something Like That” was co-written by Will Gittens and myself and produced by Sterling Gittens Jr. My entire EP was created by the 3 of us!

Where did you look to for inspiration whilst in the writing room working on this one?

When Will and I sat down to write this song we knew we wanted it to be simple yet relatable. With this song, I was really looking to write about what a lot of people think but might not say. I knew having Will and Sterling on this project was going to bring it to another level because of their talent but also because of the fact that they know me so well. I knew my music was in the right hands.

What are hoping listeners take away from the lyrical story?

I’m hoping listeners take away a feeling of hope and self-love. I think a lot of relationships don’t work because there is something we still have yet to learn about ourselves and once we do it becomes much easier to navigate what you need/deserve from a partner. I am hoping that listeners can relate to the story of the song and be able to apply it to a situation they may be going through.

How are you finding the process of releasing new music during a pandemic?

I think a lot of releasing music these days is in the social media/virtual space so aside from not being able to get out there on the road or do in-person interviews I think releasing new music during a pandemic is fairly normal.

Do you have any innovative promotional ideas in mind for this record to fit with current guidelines?

I am really trying to get my followers/listeners engaged as much as I can whether that be with virtual shows or Q&As. Other than that,
I don’t think we plan on doing anything super out of the ordinary.

You’ve previously mentioned an EP is in the works, so can we expect this single to act as a launch pad to a full length project?

Yes! This will be the first single off a 5 song EP I plan to release later this year!

Do you plan on sharing a music video to go alongside the song or will it be audio-only?
There will be short video content to accompany the song but for right now it will be audio-only. Maybe there will be a full-length video down the road!

Do you currently have any set goals in mind for the single?

The goal for this single is to sort of re-establish myself in the industry. It has been a while since I released new music and I think with this project I am finally at a point where I know exactly who I am as an artist and the kind of music I want to make.

Looking ahead what else can we expect from you this year?

Hopefully, as the world goes back to normal I will be able to get back out on the road and play shows for all of the wonderful country music fans again
