EXCLUSIVE: Alyssa Marie Coon Talks New Single ‘I Gotta Know’ and Music Career

Fast-rising 15-year-old country singer/songwriter Alyssa Marie Coon is becoming one of the most exciting voices in the crossover genre and is currently gearing up for the release of her brand new single ‘I Gotta Know’ which is slated to drop on Friday, July 24th.

Here we talk exclusively to Alyssa to discuss the track and her burgeoning career further:

Your new single drops on the 24th, how excited are you to be sharing new music?
I am really excited about sharing my new music. I enjoy hearing feedback from my friends, family, and fans.

Can you tell us a bit about the writing and recording process for this track?
I met with a good friend of mine from Nashville. We co-wrote the song. I played it numerous times at home and on different Facebook and Instagram lives during the lockdown. When our area opened to phase one after being quarantined, I recorded the guitar and vocal track and sent them to my producer and engineer. The song came alive from here.

Where did you look to for inspiration when penning this song?
Whenever I write music, I write about things I go through or things my friends and family go through. This particular song was about someone who I was interested in. I thought he felt the same way about me but I wasn’t completely sure though.

How does it feel to be releasing new music during semi-lockdown?
Honestly, it feels great to be able to release new music. I normally release 4 songs a year- some are fully produced and some are acoustics. This year, the lockdown put my recordings schedule behind but it gave me more time to write new music and practice playing different instruments.

What are you hoping listeners take away from the new single?
I’m hoping listeners will enjoy the song and say how relatable it is. The song is actually relatable to people of all ages. I am also
hoping people will want to hear more of my originals as well.

Being only 15, how are you finding juggling your music career with school, etc?
Music has always been a part of my daily life. I have been playing classical piano ever since I was 7 years old. I also started taking vocal lessons at the same time. When I am in school, I do all my school work and studies. I come home and practice music. In school, I am a vocal major. I take three chorus classes a day. This year, I took AP Music Theory and passed my exam with a high score and I earned college credit for the class. I am the only freshman in the school to have ever taken the class. It was so much fun too. I am currently finishing two more electives just so I can focus more on music the remaining three years of high school. For me, education is important. I plan to go to college and obtain a degree in music business, songwriting, and production.

When did you first start getting into country music?
I have always listened to country music because that’s what my parents listened to. When I was 7 years old, I saw Danielle Bradbery on the Voice. I really loved her voice and her personality. I started singing country songs then. I was obsessed with the song Born To Fly after hearing Danielle Bradbery sing it. That song was actually the first cover song I recorded. I was 8 years old.

You’ve already shared a few songs, so what are your long term goals for your music?
My long term goals are to continue writing and recording music. I want to perform my music live all over the world. I want my music on television shows and in movies.

Can we expect to see you touring when it’s safe?
Absolutely! I can’t wait to hit the road.

Looking ahead what else do you have planned for 2020?
Recently I have been performing at Ole Red in Orlando. I have more dates scheduled to perform there. I am also working on more original music and intend on releasing at least two more songs this year. When things settle down with this virus, I will be performing out more and travelling to Nashville to co-write and perform at various songwriters rounds.
