Her we chat exclusively to Emma and Jolie to find out further details about their inaugural offering, future album plans and much more:

Congratulations on the release of ‘I Don’t Need A Man’, how exciting is it to be sharing your first single?

So exciting! After what feels like forever waiting, the day is finally here! We’ve been desperate to put this out for everyone to hear and we hope everyone loves it as much as we do.

The track is focused on women empowerment, what was the driving force behind focusing on this theme?

Writing a female empowerment song was always something that we wanted to do. Often young girls are brought up with the idea that a man is going to give them everything. Ever since we were little girls all we can remember is being bombarded with how we needed a Prince Charming to rescue us and that having a man was going to be my our saviour in life (this inspired the lyrics about Cinderella in our song) and as we grew as women we realised that the only person that was going to end up saving us, was ourselves. Women really do not need men. If you want a man, then, of course, that’s cool, but the song is primarily saying that you don’t NEED one. Being single is perfectly okay you can be a strong independent woman no matter what you do or the choices you make! Self-love is ultimately gong to get you what you want, not a mans validation.

Where did you look for inspiration when creating this song?

The inspiration solely came from recognising our personal growth and development as individuals. We have both been in relationships where we have been made to feel unlovable and “not enough.” We’ve ve had our fair share of toxic and narcissistic men waltz into our lives and try and break us down. We now both know that we really are more than enough, and never again will we let a man’s opinion of us make us second guess our worth, and we hope this song can help others come to that realisation too.

Can you tell us a little about the writing session for this release?

The day we wrote I Don’t Need A Man was a day we will never forget. It was one of the last writing sessions that we had in Nashville and we were super excited about writing with Emily [Hackett] as she’s one of our favourite people to write with. We had the title “I Don’t Need A Man” and the concept of the song ready when we went into the session, quickly Emily picked up on exactly the vibe that we were going for and we managed to get the song written in about an hour. It was such a fun, laid back and extremely rewarding session and we can’t thank Emily enough for helping us bring our idea to life

Was this track always going to be your first official single or were there any other songs in the running?

As soon as we wrote it we knew instantly that this was going to be the one. We sent the work tape over to Triple Fret and they loved it just as much as we did and we all agreed that this would be our first release. It’s upbeat with a positive message and we couldn’t be happier to be releasing this as our first single.

What are you hoping listeners take away from this track?

That it’s okay to be on your own and to just be happy and content with what you have got to give yourself.

Do you also have any plans to share a music video for this release?

We do! We don’t want to give too much away, so keep your eyes on our socials over the next few weeks!

How does it feel to be sharing new music during semi-lockdown?

It is quite strange, we were obviously hoping to be able to go out and perform our new song for everyone, but we are still going to do everything we can socially with live-streams, etc. We did originally have the idea for a big single release party but there is always Zoom and the back garden!

Can we expect tour dates off you when it’s safe to do so?

Yes, we are so ready to get back out performing again for everyone! We’ve never actually done just an Emma and Jolie gig so that would be amazing. We promise as soon as its safe for everyone we will.

Do you have any plans to share a full length album at some stage?

Yes, 100% the future! We are planning for an EP at some point next year, but definitely in the future will have a full album. We’ve already written so many great songs that we’ve been considering putting on the EP when that comes about, we are so excited to share even more music with everyone! We are waiting to head back into the studio soon so expect more!
