EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Abbie Mac Chats Backstage @ C2C Festival 2025

Following on from a hugely successful 2024 including supporting Morgan Wallen at Hyde Park, Sophia Scott in London and releasing her breakout single ‘Whiskey (Changed My Mind), Abbie Mac made her triumphant return to the C2C Festival stage at the O2 Arena last weekend and Music and Tour News were lucky enough to catch up with the Irish singer/songwriter backstage.

Hi Abbie, we wanted to start off by asking how are you finding your C2C weekend so far?

I’ve found it great. Obviously I played the BBC Radio 2 stage at C2C in Belfast yesterday which was great and I got to obviously get to do it back here in the O2 which is great. Honestly, I love it.

How are you finding it coming from Ireland with a roots background moving more into mainstream country sounds?

I think it’s great cos obviously I get to put my own homegrown Irish country into that mainstream country and give everyone a sense of that which is absolutely amazing.

And did you grow up surrounded by that kind of music?

I did, I grew up on kind of Irish trad music and then obviously I then evolved into American-style country cos I found it a bigger scene and I want to get more exposure and it’s always been a big love.

So, how have you been finding the fans’ response this weekend?

Great, obviously I just played my first set there on The Big Entrance Stage and it was great. I got really well received and everyone was singing my songs back to me and I was like “oh my God, everyone knows my songs”. So, it was really, really good.

You’ve also recently released your new single ‘Mine and Yours’, how’s that experience been for you?

Really well, obviously I got played on the One Show on Friday night which was really, really good. So to get to play here today and my second year is obviously amazing and it went really, really well.

How did the One Show opportunity come about for you?

The One Show, there’s a boy back home called John Kerr and he’s a radio presenter for BBC and he kind of played me at the start and has been really, really good to me and has been playing my songs and stuff so he obviously mentioned me in conversations with the BBC and stuff like that so that’s how that came about but I’m so grateful for him even thinking of me to be the kind of headline for BBC so it was great.

You have also recently supported Sophia Scott at her London show, how did you find that experience?

Amazing honestly, Sophia Scott is lovely. Her crowd were just so well receiving of me cos obviously, I’m a support they’re not here to see me they’re here to see her but playing there, it was great. They loved every song which was so much fun.

So, do you have any plans to headline your own tour anytime soon?

Hopefully within the next couple of years obviously, you know I’m still kind of new to it all but my dream is to be headlining and go to Nashville. I’ll be going there [Nashville] this year or next, that’s the dream.

Do you feel like these kinds of things and shows also inspire your songwriting?

Definitely, you know hearing different types of songs from different people and different backgrounds and different stories, you know it’s helped me take into consideration what I can do with my songs cos right now I’m still experimenting with my type of music and kind of releasing different styles. Slow ballads, upbeat you know so I’m kind of hearing more twangy country and I’m loving that.

So, what else does 2025 hold for you?

Loads and loads of gigs, more writing, more releasing. Everything, I just want to connect with my audience on a deeper level and get them to really connect with my music and know me through my music, so that’s my plan.

We have one last question before we let you go, what would be your message to your UK fanbase?

Honestly, just support your UK artists it pays off in the end and you’d rather support someone in your hometown than someone who’s not you know what I mean cos the more everyone is supporting each other the better we all become.
