EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Brady Lee Talks New Single ‘Strangers In A Photograph’ Featuring Kelsey Lamb

This past Friday (February 3) on-the-rise country music artist Brady Lee released his incredible new single titled ‘Strangers In A Photograph’ which is a duet with fellow country musician Kelsey Lamb and it is a truly brilliant duet from the equally talented creatives.

Here we chat exclusively with Brady Lee to discuss the track further:

Congratulations on the release of your duet, how excited are you to be sharing this track?

Well, thank you. I’m always excited to release new music but this one is special. I knew it when I wrote it & cut the demo, and to hear how far it’s come is truly unreal. I get more excited about this song every day. People are latching on to it and to it feels like, for the first time, we got everything right – from the photos to the promotion to the song itself.

How did this collaboration come about?

I didn’t originally write this as a duo! My manager had the idea to bring a female vocalist on. This will be my third collaboration, and we try really hard to make sure that the people we have on are exactly right for the song. Kelsey has a phenomenal voice that suited the arrangement perfectly, and her brand of music also fit so smoothly into this song. We’re working under the same distribution label (OneRPM), and my manager, Trevor, made the connection for us. Nashville gets smaller & smaller the more you create. Kelsey and I have become good friends through the process, which made the collaboration all the more special.

How did you guys create this song, were you in the studio together or was it more of a virtual process?

We worked out of a small studio in Spring Hill to do vocals. We all showed up to Jacob’s house (producer) after he & I had worked up a demo. I had already laid my vocals down, so when Kelsey showed up it was only about a half day of vocal tracking. She nailed it on like the first or second go, and the rest of the time we were either coming up with weird harmonies, vocal runs, or just chilling. The arrangement of the song was done virtually. There’s such great technology out there that you can almost create a real-time virtual recording studio. We tracked drums, electrics, and all the production elements virtually over a few weeks. The final add was Tony Aichele for the resonator solo – he plays for Morgan Wallen and literally squeezed me in between tour legs cause he’s such an awesome guy.

How did you find the overall writing and recording process for this one?

I get more & more comfortable with my sonic space with every release. I really enjoy digging into songs both as a songwriter and producer. I’m very hands-on with projects and work really hard to bring each song to life. On the writing side, SIAP had about 8 revisions before I got it where I wanted. I was literally reworking lyrics up until we were cutting the vocals in the studio. Production-wise, this song was a little less involved for me, just because Jacob and I had such a great flow on bringing it together. I believe in collaboration, and so when Jacob had a vision for the song I took a backseat and let him run. We actually had two different productions for this song, one is the one you hear released today – the other was actually a much more classic country sound. Both work, but I really wanted that modern sound.

What are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrical story?

I just want listeners to be able to process this curiosity that I present in the lyric. It’s okay, and normal, to be curious about old exes and friends. You can be curious about their life and what they are doing and not feel inclined to “get back” with them.

Do you have any set goals in mind for this release?

This song has already knocked all my goals out of the park. Thanks to my manager, Trevor, my publicity team at Perkins Publicity, and my producer Jacob Frish, they CRUSHED this release. I’m hoping at this point we can release some additional content around this song and just keep this buzz alive.

Looking ahead, what else does 2023 hold for you?

I’m planning on a bunch of new releases and hopefully a few music videos as well, which I’ve never done before. I’ve got some new songs that I’m dying to get out and we have a super busy summer planned with tour dates. It’s gonna be a year for the memory books!
