EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Zoee Talks New Single ‘Dirty Blonde’
Nashville-based Australian native Zoee is on a mission to become country music’s next breakout star this year. She has begun 2023 in style with the release of her fantastic new single titled ‘Dirty Blonde’ which further pushes her up the ranks and showcases her talents as a country artist.
Here we chat exclusively with Zoee to discuss the track in more detail:
Congratulations on the release of Dirty Blonde, how excited are you about this new era?
I’m very excited to be releasing music that feels very honest to me, but that also says something for us girls (and guys too!).
You’re currently based in Nashville, what’s it like releasing music as an international artist in Music City?
Honestly, moving across the world (this is my second time – my first time was moving from Australia to the UK) has been a huge adventure in itself, but I am overwhelmed and so grateful by how welcoming the Nashville community has been since I got here. There is an aura about Nashville that brings creatives together and a magic that is quite unexplainable. For songwriters, this truly is the town you need to be in!! Plus the food is amazing I’m so grateful to be here and writing so much new music with so many talented friends, writers and artists
What’s been your most rewarding experience so far?
Releasing my song “Castles in the Sand” – which went to #1 in Australia, the Netherlands and charted in a few other countries – was really gratifying. That song is so personal to me and to let it out into the world and have that many people resonate with it, is just incredible.
Also, getting to meet and work with so many of my songwriter heroes has been amazing! I was just writing with Kyle Jacobs the other day. He’s written so many incredible songs from Garth Brooks to Lee Brice and everything in between. There’s James House (“A Broken Wing” for Martina McBride, “Ain’t That Lonely Yet” for Dwight Yoakum), Steve Dorff (“Any Which Way But Loose”) and so many more! It has been a dream to write and perform with these legends who helped inspire me to want to pursue my own music.
With this new track, what are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrics?
That there ain’t nothing wrong with being a dirty blonde and proud!
Do you have any set goals in mind for this project?
I do! I want people to know they can be proud of who they are and really feel like they can own it. I know we all have our own insecurities and down days, but this is a reminder that you are genuinely a badass.
You’ve released a lot of singles so far, can we expect an album soon?
Well. I am working on a few special things for this year, which I am unable to share right now. Lol … But I would say stay tuned! There is a lot in the pipeline for 2023! (If you should feel inclined, you can join my newsletter for all my updates –> zoeeofficial.com/newsletter
Looking ahead, what else does 2023 hold for you?
A lot of new music! I have been in the studio working endlessly on new music I’ve been writing and co-writing, these last few months. I am really excited to have kicked off the new year with Dirty Blonde and looking forward to sharing the next batch of goodies, as well as playing on the road a lot more too. I just played a show with Denny Laine (of Wings and Moody Blues — an absolute legend!) but it also made me miss the UK and my music tribe there, so I’m hoping to get back that way sometime soon too. I’m eternally grateful for everyone’s support of the new music and those who have been there from the beginning… Here’s to 2023 and beyond! Lotsa love and keep shining
