EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Sean C. Kennedy Talks New Single ‘Hurts To See You Go’

Back in late September of this year, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Sean C. Kennedy returned with his powerful and emotive new single titled ‘Hurts To See You Go’ which showcases the Scottish artist’s musicianship in a spectacular way thanks to its striking lyrical story and cross-genre production.

Here we speak exclusively with Sean C. Kennedy to discuss the track further:

Congratulations on the new single, how does it feel to be entering into this next chapter of your career?

With less and less expectation. The last year I’ve learned to surrender more which has brought the best songs personally and more as the musician and not just the singer-songwriter. It has been fun. Writing songs with my best friends. The people you can talk to about anything so putting that energy into a song is freeing!

How have you found the response to the song so far?

Yes, it’s been beautiful. I think the nostalgic essence of the song has captured people. It’s an infectious song with plenty of hooks and an emotional message that relates. I hear people saying they have to play it 2 times in a row all the time. That’s what I love to hear!

What’s been your favourite part of the creative process for this one?

With less expectation. I feel I care so much, I don’t care anymore. More in regards to, I just love creating. We as artists get caught in the ‘how’ will it survive when it’s out or ‘how’ will it fit in and get x amount of streams. I don’t care. The people hearing it aren’t thinking all that so why should I? Let it go. Be the creator. Help people feel something. Even just writing and producing these songs at home with my favourite musicians too is special. Keeping it in the camp.

Do you have any set goals in mind for this release?

Yes, these songs are written not only for streaming purposes and a work of art but to be heard live on a stage. The energy of these songs live on the big stage. You can hear and see its spirit.

Do you have any plans in place to release a full-length album?

Yes, I’m going to be releasing a full album. This is the first taste of it. Maybe 10-12 songs. Put out a few singles and release the rest. Let’s get back to a body of art. Who are you as an artist if you’re not showing who you truly are? Do you want to be here for just a little while or for many years to come? I believe personality is the spirit to my music and for everyone else. It’s your genre too. Be the artist.

Looking ahead, what else does 2022 hold for you?

Another single will be released in November called “Thinking Of You” the start of the year will roll out the rest. Starting to play more live band shows showcasing the new songs. Focus on videos for the songs. Recently I’ve been acting more and adore film and cinematography. I’ll show my love for that in these videos collaborating with friends.
