Here we chat exclusively with Jessica Lynn to discuss the release in more detail:
Congratulations on this release, ow excited are you to be sharing this new single?
I am extremely passionate about this brand-new single and the story and message behind it. My music is known for being very high energy and this is something very different, stripped down, and acoustic. I really hope that this song can touch people and that they can relate to it in the way that I and Liam have.
You’ve teamed up with Liam Wakefield for this release, how did that collab come about?
When we were planning our UK tour for 2020, Liam had reached out to me on Instagram to inquire about opening some of the shows. I was immediately drawn to his voice and playing as well as just his spirit. As I got to know him, he inspired me more and more, not just musically, but personally, and I’m really honoured that he said yes to doing this song with me. I really don’t feel that it would have been the same without him.
The song focuses on mental health, how important is it to you that we start conversing about these things openly?
I am a big advocate for mental health awareness. I think it is something that no matter what walk of life you come from, what age you are, or what your current circumstances are, it is something that connects us all. At some point in all of our lives, we struggle with this, and it is not an easy thing to talk about. It is quite taboo. One of the most important things when it comes to mental health is knowing that you are not alone and that you can always get through. Liam and I’s hope for this song is to let people know that. We have both been there. We hope listeners can find comfort in that.
What are you hoping listeners take away from this song?
I hope that this song reminds people that music can be such a comfort in times of need. Music has saved Liam’s life and it has saved my life. It has always been there for me on my best days and my worst days. When you feel like you have no one to turn to or no one that understands you, turn to music.
Do you have any set goals in mind for the release?
I really try not to set specific goals for each release because so far in my career, everything I’ve ever done has expanded and gone down paths in ways I never could have imagined. I am just always pleased when each step is further than the last.
What would be your message to people who are currently struggling or know somebody who is?
It would be that it is normal. We all go through this, and it is nothing to be ashamed of or afraid of. It will always pass, I promise.
