EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Robyn Red Talks New Single ‘Just Need The Wine’
Following her triumphant appearance at C2C Festival this March, Scottish country-pop singer/songwriter Robyn Red has released her latest single ‘Just Need The Wine’. Here, we catch up exclusively with Robyn to discuss C2C, her latest track, and much more:
First off, congratulations on a hugely successful C2C Festival weekend. How was that experience like for you?
The C2C experience is always a great one! I’ve played Glasgow C2C for a couple of years now, and every year, people have packed the room out for me! This year was a bit different, as I was able to play in both Glasgow and London. Glasgow packed out the room I was playing in, and so did London. This was such a surprise because I’ve not played London much, but I was welcomed with open arms!
How did the crowds react to the new music?
The crowds loved the new music! I got a really good response, and I think everyone is looking forward to the EP as much as I am!
And how are you finding the response to this new single?
The response to the new single has been great! Everyone loves the humour in the song and the story behind it.
This is the latest release off your upcoming EP, what can fans expect from this track and its message?
I wrote this song when I went to a house party sober, and if you want some advice… NEVER DO THAT. Drinks were spilled everywhere, people were arguing and my best friend was being sick in the bath. I was trying to help everyone when secretly I wanted to be on their level of drunk. So when I wrote “Just Need The Wine”, I was thinking about being in the drunk people’s shoes. They were having a great time, and sometimes you really just have to let loose.
What has the writing and recording process been like for this project?
The writing process was really easy, I think I had this written in about 20 minutes. The recording process was a lot of fun. I recorded it with Jamie and Graeme Duffin. We were bouncing ideas off of each other, and the last thing we added was the fiddle. Originally, there was no fiddle in it, but now I think this is what makes the song!
What are your goals for this new EP?
My goal for this EP is to allow people into my story so far, what I’ve felt through my teenage years, and hopefully I can pick up some new fans who resonate with my story.
Looking ahead, what else does 2025 hold for you?
2025 will see me supporting Kezia Gill on her “Kezia Gill and Friends” tour. I will be playing a lot of festivals, and I will be holding an EP release on June 7th in King Tuts Wah Wah Hut with the full band, which is not to be missed!
