EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: The Daizies Talk ‘The Wanderer’ EP

The Daizies are an exciting new country music duo coming out of Nashville consisting of singer/songwriters Sarah Darling, and Julie Lavery. The two women have joined forces for this incredible new project and last week released their stunning debut EP together titled ‘The Wanderer’.

Here we chat exclusively with Sarah and Julie AKA The Daizies to discuss the new duo, tour plans, new music and more.

The Daizies officially formed this year, what was the driving force behind creating this new duo?

S: Back in 2021 we started writing together. The moment that we sang in harmony I knew we had something special!

J: Sarah asked me to join her on her Coastin’ Tour and it was on our long road trips from state to state, singing 2000’s hits with the windows down that we tossed around the idea of starting a duo, and the Daizies were born.

You’re obviously both continuing your solo projects, and Sarah you’re also a part of the Six One Five Collective, how are you finding the process of juggling those ventures?

S: Being creative in multiple outlets feels really good right now and it’s feeding my soul rather than exhausting me.

J: I think in the world of music you get used to wearing many different hats and juggling multiple projects. It sort of comes with the territory. It’s been so much fun though and I don’t feel overwhelmed YET.

How have you found the process of creating music together for The Daizies?

S&J: I think because of the lack of pressure we’ve been able to just have fun with this project and write without boundaries.

It’s very much straight down the line country, was that a conscious decision or did the sound evolve naturally?

S: We were really going for that American Western, cinematic vibe. It was very much inspired by our West Coast leg of the Coastin’ tour actually.

J: Everything on the west coast just feels massive! And in comparison, you feel really small. It’s humbling in many ways. The inspiration hit us like a tidal wave.

The record has been out a short time, but how have you found the response so far?

S: It’s been really cool to hear people tell me that they haven’t heard a darker side of music from me. It almost feels like an alter ego!

J: The response has been so warm! We didn’t do much to market this release so I think people were happily surprised to hear music from us

Do you two have a particular favourite song off the record?

S: I love “Say Hello” because it’s about embracing who you are in the moment, and the production is so powerful. And Point of View, I just love the way Julie sings that one.

That’s funny because those are my favorites too! “Say Hello” to me was kind of about embracing getting older. Especially as women in this industry, it can be hard to cope with the idea of not being “young,” anymore. But we’d love to destroy that stereotype and show the world that women don’t have an expiration date. And “Point of View” was my love letter to Moab. I remember driving through the red mountains after having a bit of a panic attack earlier that day and realizing that if I hadn’t gotten out of bed and joined Sarah for dinner I would have missed out on one of the most beautiful nights of my life. The only way is through.

What does the writing and recording process look like for The Daizies?

S&J: Usually, we get together at one of our houses and present an idea that one of us has and just jump right in. We work relatively quickly together. Writing this record in particular came easy too because we weren’t putting any pressure on ourselves. And we owe a huge amount of gratitude to our recording engineer and producer, Spencer Broschard. He understood everything we were going for and brought it to life in the most beautiful way.

Can we expect to have a tour at some point?

S: I say “Yes!” A lot of people have already requested it so I think there will be shows in the near future and a tour somewhere down the line.

J: I second that! I’m looking forward to seeing where this new adventure takes us. Hopefully, all around the world!
