EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Wild Fire Talk New Single ‘Just Friends’
Following the success of hit singles including ‘Like Home’, and ‘Hold On To That’ country music sibling duo Wild Fire (Kayla and Kelli Iutzwig) will release their energetic, full-bodied pop-rock-country crossover single ‘Just Friends’ across all streaming and digital platforms from Friday, March 3.
Here we chat exclusively with Wild Fire to discuss the single in more detail:
You have a new single coming on March 3, how excited are you to be sharing this track?
We are incredibly excited to be sharing our new single “Just Friends” on March 3rd! We’ve been working on this song and the rest of our upcoming album for quite some time, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it. It’s always a rush to release new music and see how people react to it. We hope that “Just Friends” will connect with our audience and give them a taste of what’s to come on our upcoming 2023 album. This single is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to share the rest of our music with the world!
It’s a high-energy rock crossover, how did you find the writing and recording process for that sound?
When it comes to our high-energy rock crossover sound, the writing and recording process was both exciting and challenging. We have always been drawn to a diverse range of musical styles, from country and folk to pop and rock. As we began writing and recording our music, we wanted to create a sound that reflected our eclectic taste while also staying true to our roots. The writing process often involved experimenting with different sounds and rhythms until we found something that felt authentic to us. We would start with a melody or a chord progression and build from there, layering in different instruments and vocal harmonies to create a full-bodied sound. Recording was a similar process, with a focus on capturing the energy and intensity of our live performances. We worked closely with our producer to ensure that each instrument and vocal track was mixed in a way that emphasized the dynamic nature of our music. Overall, the writing and recording process for this sound was a labour of love, and we’re so proud of the end result. We hope that our fans will continue to enjoy our music and feel the same passion and energy that we put into every song.
Are you hoping this allows listeners to see a different side to you and your music?
We are definitely hoping that our listeners will see a different side of us and our music. While we have always been proud of our country and pop roots, we also wanted to explore new musical avenues and push the boundaries of our sound. We knew that incorporating elements of rock into our music would be a departure from what our fans were used to hearing from us, but we also believed it was important to take risks and evolve as artists. We hope that by showcasing our versatility as musicians and songwriters, our listeners will gain a deeper appreciation for the breadth and depth of our creative vision. We want to challenge their expectations and surprise them with new sounds and styles.
Ultimately, our goal is to create music that is both true to ourselves and accessible to a wide audience. We believe that “Just Friends” accomplishes both, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear it and experience this new side of our music.

What’s your approach to the writing process when beginning a new project?
For us, the writing process is both exciting and collaborative, and we’re always eager to explore new ideas and sounds. Typically, we start by brainstorming different themes and concepts that we want to explore in our music. This might involve drawing from our personal experiences or looking to current events and trends for inspiration. We then work on creating melodies and chord progressions that capture the emotion and vibe of the theme we’ve chosen. Once we have a solid foundation for a song, we begin to flesh it out with lyrics and instrumentation. This is where our collaborative dynamic really shines, as we each bring our own unique strengths and perspectives to the table. Kayla is a gifted lyricist with a talent for crafting evocative and relatable verses, while Kelli has a great ear for melody and harmony and is skilled at finding just the right instrumentation to complement our sound. Throughout the writing process, we stay open to new ideas and approaches, and we’re always willing to experiment with different sounds and styles. We believe that the best music comes from a place of authenticity and vulnerability, and we strive to create songs that are honest and meaningful to us and our fans. In the end, our goal is always to create music that resonates with people and makes a positive impact in their lives. We hope that our approach to the writing process reflects that commitment and inspires others to follow their own creative instincts and passions.
What are you hoping listeners take away from the lyrics of the song?
We hope that listeners take away the message that it’s okay to have fun and be young without the pressure of having to commit to a serious relationship. “Just Friends” is about two people who are enjoying each other’s company without any strings attached. We want people to know that it’s possible to have a fun and carefree relationship without having to worry about the future. We also want our listeners to understand that sometimes it’s difficult to navigate emotions, especially when they’re mixed up with physical attraction. “Just Friends” explores the complexities of those feelings and how they can sometimes lead to confusion. We hope that our listeners can relate to the lyrics and maybe even find a sense of freedom in them.
Looking ahead, what else does 2023 hold for you?
We are excited to share what 2023 holds for us. First and foremost, we are thrilled to announce that we will be releasing a new album in the Summer of 2023. The songs on the album were chosen from a large number of songs we’ve written within the past year, and we can’t wait for our fans to hear them. What’s unique about this album is that it’s being crowdfunded by our fans. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received so far, and we’re excited to continue working with our fans to make this album a reality.
