EXCLUSIVE: Morgan Johnston Talks New Single ‘Just In Case’

Following on from a breakout year of success in 2020 where she released the hit ‘If He Never Broke My Heart’, fast-rising country crossover talent Morgan Johnston will return on April 23rd with the release of her eagerly awaited new single titled ‘Just In Case’ which will be available across all leading platforms.

Here we chat exclusively with Morgan Johnston to discuss the track ahead of its official drop date later this month:

Your new single drops later this month, how excited are you to be sharing new music?

Ahhhh, honestly I’m so excited. The last song I put out was in August and it was an acoustic single so it’s been a minute since I’ve been able to share a story this close to my heart with full production behind it and I’m really excited to experience it all come together.

Can you give us a little insight into the writing and recording experience for this track?

I wrote this song over two years ago with Ian McConnell and Kyle Schlienger. I think we all knew when we got done writing that day that it was a special one and I’ve just been waiting for the right time to put it out. Matt Geroux produced this song and I trust him so much with this process. We really focused on pulling the raw emotion out of the story and I think we captured it just the way I imagined it.

Who have you teamed up with to bring this vision to life?
The writers are Kyle Schlienger and Ian McConnell, producer is Matt Geroux and I’ve had a lot of help promoting it and making plans with this song from Cynthia Claire at INCA management!

What are you hoping listeners take away from this song’s lyrical story?
I’m always trying to be so intentionally honest about my story in songs. I love to use real things that have happened in my life and as sad as this song is, I hope it gives the listener a safe place to feel those emotions and not feel alone in them. I feel like I spent a lot of time running from those emotions because it feels shameful to be sad over someone but it’s important to me that this song gives people a safe place to really embrace a feeling. It made me feel better after writing it and I just hope it does the same to others listening.

How have you found the process of sharing new music during this time?
Truthfully, it’s been an adjustment process. Things are always changing around us and the pandemic added some challenges as far as not being able to play shows. I’m sure I can attest to a lot of other artists and myself that our biggest joy in creating music, is sharing it with others and that human connection. Obviously, that couldn’t happen this year, so it’s been a learning process. Regardless of there being a Global Pandemic this past year, the music business is always shifting and changing anyway but at the end of the day, I really try to focus on the songs and being authentic to myself and my craft and trust that the rest of it will take care of itself.

Do you have any set goals in mind for this single?
This sounds simple and maybe a little lame haha, but I really just hope people love it. Not love it for me but love it for them. I hope they hear this when they needed to hear it the most and they have the urge to turn it back on again. I hope they can relate and get on board with my stories and be a part of this journey with me as I put more music out. I hope this song is an outlet for connection.
